Not too surprising. Giving them back would question the glory of the Empire and colonialization, which is a book the English are hellbent to keep shut.
elgin marbles?? did thomas bruce the 7th earl of elgin carve the metopes, zophorus and the caryatid currently in the british museum? no, so just call them the parthenon marbles then.
You’d think as someone of Indian descent he’d be more sensitive to the issue of stolen artifacts, but being this far right-wing is just an all-encompassing brain-rot.
I don’t…I can’t…the current government of the UK won’t share the stolen marbles it inherited with the current government of Greece?
That is hilariously ridiculous. I love it.
Just wait until the day the UK tries to rejoin the common market again 😁 patience Greece!
We will be plaged with this debate for decades… some people thinking they are making the world a better place.
In reality, that just tells you, we should correct the errors of history. Crimean Tartars should kick out Russians and Ukrainians. Konigsberg should be Prussian again. Americans should be sent back to Europe. Multiples waves of people should be kicked out Palestine… where are we gonna stop ?
Plus it opens stupid questions… like Egyptians artifact should be given back to the children of arab invaders who destroyed the previous culture ?
What about bought artifacts ? gift ? gift under duress ? corruption ? Should we ask the people to pay back what we give back ?
Focusing on creating a world that generates less conflict is difficult enough, not to reopen every wound of the past.
>“We show the world their assets, and the world travels to the UK to view them.”
I would much rather they just say openly they are worried about the financial cost to their museums and realpolitik it rather than this condescending gaslighting stuff they always do.

We should sanction them until they do.
Mandatory summary, every time this is being discussed: https://youtu.be/x73PkUvArJY
Against the political trend…
If every piece of art returned to its original place it would be chaos.
Lol
“Hey fellas i have a great idea! Lets go steal shit all over the world and make laws to explain why we can’t give them back”
“Yo dudes any chance we could get those things back that were here for the past 2500 years?”
“Nah bro i got this 50 year old paper here that says it’s protected by law, no can do sorry.”
the real question is when is France going to give us back Normandy 😉
– steal other countries ancient artifacts
– passes a law to protect them from being sent back
– refuse to elaborate
They will when they inevitably apply for EU membership again.
I thought that the British Museum was in negotiation about returning the Marbles to Greece?
Thieves refusing to give back the loot or even acknowledge they stole. In other news, water is wet.
I have a proposition: if you return these, we will accept you back in the EU /s
let’s impose sanctions on the UK
I think it’s perfectly fine for Greece to want the Marble.
However those who are saying the UK ‘stole’ it are ridiculous. Greece did not exist when the Marble was bought fairly from the Ottomans.
The Ottomans had ruled in the area that is now Greece for ~400 years at that point. They were the legitimate and relevant authority.

This is a wildly funny line
We should give them to Turkey.
Another russian troll post to cause friction between EU nations.
It’s time for greeks to pack some pittes of souvlakia and go steal them back
They’re not done looking at it
