Butter or olive oil? Based on actual per capita consumption.

  1. Well I’d never trust a per capita figure for Lux. But I’m not sure if people come over the border to buy olive oil. Unless there’s some tax dodge I haven’t heard of.

But mainly this’ll be the Italians and Portuguese who live here, right?

  2. The fact that Luxembourgers simply have the money for it plays a role, too. In neighboring countries people struggle enough to think twice before putting a €5 bottle of oil in their shopping cart

  3. I‘ve noticed that many people here in Luxembourg don‘t understand how to cook properly. You don‘t use fkn olive oil to fry your Schnitzel ffs. So many people use olive oil as cooking oil simply because they‘ve never used a cookbook. Please my fellow Luxembourgers… stop using olive oil in your damn wok.

  4. As a Greek here, I use both, depending on the occasion. If I’m making a nice omelette I will use Butter on my pan, but olive oil can be used in many places where butter can not. You won’t make marinate with butter (or at least you better not) or use butter for a salad.
