Sorry but whats the issue or thing that confuses here?
They’re just showing off their folding skills.
What?
What do you mean?
Cause it’s easy to do and looks good.
If you’re referring to folding the duvet lengthwise and then laying it across the bed: it’s purely for aesthetics, as it makes the bed look neater. You’re right that it makes little practical sense (as you have to unfold and then then rotate the duvet 90° to use it), but sometimes aesthetics trump function 🙂
If thats a hotel or similar:
That way duvets and blankets dont hang down the sides and in the way of the cleaning person’s vacuum cleaner.
Edit:
theres another thing – whoever inspects the housekeeping staff can see with things like that (or the folded bog roll) that the room saw the needed attention everywhere.
What’s the confusing part? Having two separate duvets? imo that’s one of Northern Europe’s greatest contributions to the world. No more fighting for the covers.
Culturally, this is what a neatly made up bed looks like in Germany. Two separate duvets, one pillow per person, the duvet folded up neatly. Since, generally, double blankets aren’t used, spreading both blankets out the way it’s common in the US for instance, just doesn’t look neat.
What’s suppposed to be German about this picture, i’ve seen this all over, not just in Germany, incl. outside Europe.
My wife still does this after 7 years of marriage and I can’t unprogram it. It causes me severe mental anguish every time I hop into bed and have to rotate it through 90 degrees. Sometimes in my haste, I forget about the items on my bedside table, and they are struck by a flailing and spinning duvet. More than one water filled glass has been destroyed by this unnecessary manoeuvre. Germany – think of the water glasses. Stop folding the duvet like this.
I am also doing that, because I can’t stand the duvet touching the floor. Also I am vacuuming under the bed and the duvet hanging down on the side is annoying. My husband doesn’t get my inner need to fold the duvet like that, but I think this is something deeply cultural and educational ingrained in me. Other folding methods do not feel ‘right’.
In what scenario does it actually make sense to make a bed anyway? 🤔
No for really, it’s just the way many people so it over here, I dont think that the question for sense… makes any sense?
