My grandfather was a prisoner of war in a weaving mill in Riga from 1945-1948. He fell in love with this Red Cross nurse and kept her photo until his death in 1986. We wonder who she is, does maybe anyone recognize her? Thanks!

If you have only photo to go by, it is pretty hopeless. You should see if there are no documents showing where exactly he might met her or any writings that might mention her name etc. With a photo you can just hope that someone who knew her will see your post and recognise that this is what she looked like 70+ years ago, which is a pretty slim chance. At least try Latvian genealogy/history/old photo groups on Facebook, there are more older people there than on Reddit.
Looks like Ženija! Wonderfull lassie!
This is really cool story! I hope you will solve this mistery and update us here! 🙂
As already one comment said, try latvian facebook groups regarding this matter.
Good luck! 🙂
She’s definitely not Latvian.
