Sinn Féin does not believe Gerry Adams should have to apologise for controversial Christmas video

  1. The world is going to be horrified when we put these populist clowns into government. Our Brexit/Trump moment. Shameful stuff.

  2. The main problem they had was with the last line in the video, which wasn’t said by Gerry so I don’t see much of an issue.. The fella who owns the business is an old mate of mine. If anything this will boost sales as in Derry this humour wouldn’t offend too many people.

  3. West-Brit gobshites who support FF/FG will turn a blind eye to the fact that young professionals are emigrating in droves, housing will be unaffordable for another generation, a decimated healthcare system, underfunded education, voting to seal documents relating to the historical incarceration and torture of single mothers that was started by the government they adore, but be up in arms about a politician in a video? Make it make sense

  4. Looking forward to these absolute dipshits representing Ireland in a few years. This sub is hilarious/horrific, ignoring the casual terrorism in the naive hope you might be able to buy a house beside your mam.

  5. Firstly, SF have nothing to apologise for here.

However, it doesn’t surprise me that it was taken down. A company cashing in on Gerrys murderous history for entertainment isn’t a good look.

I’m utterly mystified and impressed at the same time as to how Gerry’s image has gone through such a whitewashing in such a short space of time.

  6. Eoin O’Brion has the right idea IMO. You can apologise for the fact that something you did inadvertently caused offence, without apologising for doing it. It’s the most balanced response to this. “Personally I don’t think this is offensive, but others disagree and obviously I hate that I hurt anyone by doing it”.

  7. On the same week the UK government have had to pay out for collusion with loyalist terrorists for murdering members of the Miami showband, and the UK supreme county ruling the PSNI had no legal basis to drop an investigation into torture of the hooded men, or the Supreme Court in London deciding the PSNI failed to impartially investigate the 1972 murder of Jean Smyth killed by undercover UK soliders this is what the media decide to be outraged about

  8. They have bigger concerns. BBC currently in a case as a defendant where Adams has taken a libel case. They intend to show evidence to the court of his membership of the IRA and how he sat on the Army council.

Gerry’s big lie looks like it might come crashing down on him and SF

  9. I think the thing most folks don’t understand is that there are people alive today who’s relatives were murdered by the IRA.

Seeing this being joked about can’t be nice for them. It’s really bad taste and Sinn Fein need to stop this nonsense if they want to be taken seriously.

  10. Of course they don’t.

They’ve spent years using mainly social media to try and soften his image and trick people into think he’s the nation’s cuddly old grandad so that he can win his eventual bid at the presidency.

The party is all about long term thinking and securing legacies.

  11. It’s actually a golden opportunity for SF to distance themselves from the “SF/IRA” label by coming out against Gerry Adams, even mildly. Opportunity missed.

  12. Ah yes for the hooded men conviction there are fucking crickets meanwhile this vid is worthy of international outrage and a full media circuit.

Our politics are a fuckin joke

  13. Apparently Mary Lou thinks its ok because he did it for a “very very very” good cause … which is great news for the Navan Nazi appreciation society who are planning a collection for the local children’s hospital next weekend, now in full uniform.

  14. There is a dirty undercurrent of Sinn Fein supporters that believe violence (and crime) are legitimate political tools in a democracy. The party leadership must despair of them as on one hand they just plain need their support of their numbers but on the other hand realise they rob the party of any sliver of trust from the cautious majority.

It’s one thing to vote for a party because you want better access to housing, but a whole other thing if you think people who triumphally chant “up the Rá” will get access to Garda files to settle old scores.
