Hey everyone, apologies if this has been asked before but I could not find an answer to the exact question I have in old posts.
The general rule with the German Blue card is that after 2 years, you do not have to inform anyone when changing jobs. What I am not sure of, is when does the 2 years start:
on the date I began my first job, or on the start date of the Blue Card.

Sep 2019 – employment began at company 1
Dec 2019 – blue card start date
Does my 2 years complete in Sep or Dec 2021?

I assume after my 2 years are completed, my Blue card will be ‘freed’ from my old company automatically, without my having to ask the government offices. Please correct me if this isn’t the case.
I’d also like to avoid emailing the government offices unnecessarily as I am sure they get enough emails already. I am in Berlin, if it makes a difference.

Did you qualify for a blue card in September and only receive it in December or did you only qualify in December? For Niederlassungserlaubnis, the wording makes it sound like you only need to be employed for a job which qualifies you for a blue card, but I’m not sure if the same applies for switching jobs.
