This is exciting! One step closer to my vision for the UK, where we manufacture solar cells here cheaply and ‘sell’ them at cost to citizens and businesses. Imagine a UK where we are energy independant, with industry & public alike unshackled from the energy producer giants’ monopoly.
can’t wait for next week’s headline, “Swansea University academics found dead with several bullet holes in the head, and thrown out of third story window, in suicide”
Do they get much sun in Swansea? I’ve been there, it’s nice. The people are friendly, the beer is amazing, the beaches and countryside is fucking awesome. I just don’t remember much need for sunscreen.
Specifically the first printable Perovskite solar cell (likely the most useful type since they are high efficiency and potentially cheap to make). Other cell types like organic photovoltaics have been printed before. The big change was getting a carbon electrode instead of gold to work well, allowing printing. Good results big up Swansea.
What I think will happen, This tech will be spun out into a start up company. If successful that company will be at some point be purchased by a large multi-national.
