Lorcan Sirr: ‘The proportion of houses coming to market has reduced by 43.5% in 5 years’

  1. Honestly, we need rentals the most, and there’s the trend of current rentals going on to the market, sobI wouldn’t care too much about this if the overall number of builds was increasing significantly. Which, unfortunately, it is not.

  2. Rebuilding Ireland 2016 launched in 2017 and a snapshot of what we were promised back then:

FF’s comments at the time are especially notable:

    > Meanwhile, a separate Fine Gael-Fianna Fail housing row is developing after Mr Martin insisted Fine Gael must start building tens of thousands of local authority homes, saying pointedly he has “no ideological hang-up” over the policy. Barry Cowen warned the Government’s “reneging on commitments to reintroduce the Affordable Housing Scheme will not be overlooked” and insisted immediate action on the issue is needed.

  3. An important figure overlooked is the blocs that were sold to institutions without being put on the open market. I think I read Marlet had 55 such projects in Dublin.
