  1. Being told at 24 that you’re stupid if you don’t take on a 40 year €360k mortgage on an apartment outside Dublin to “get your foot on the property ladder”. Sorry Mom, the mob has spoken!

  2. I remember going home one Christmas and my sister and her husband showing me brochures of the “investment” they had made in Bansko – just fucking bizarre.

  3. The uncle bought two of them. Managed to keep them during the recession. All paid off now and handy to have for the cheap skiing in winter and the jazz festival in summer. Spent some good holidays in Bansko over the years, so I did.

  4. My mother purchased an apartment near Sunny Beach. It cost her €40k at the time, but it’s only worth around €20k a few years later (not sure of the current value). While it might sound like a terrible investment she has spent a lot time out there living cheap. She’s definitely got her moneys worth out of it despite never renting it out.

  5. I remember a guy at a summer job back in 07. He took out a 40 year mortgage at 24 years old. Thing is: he has it half paid off now.

  6. I’m really happy my folks went down the patio heaters/ 2 weeks in Gran Canaries way during the boom. The recession was shite but we never struggled.
