Well that explains a lot lol
I’ve done the DNA thingie, my wife (Maltese, Maltese parents and Maltese grandparent) has more Italian than me (born in Italy, Italian mother). Goes to show that by and large the Maltese are of Italian stock. I also have North African, Greek, Sardinian and a lot of Balkan, pure Mediterranean blend as you’d expect.
I cannot seem to reply to the comment listing North Africa %. Those numbers are impossible. There is not a nation on earth with that level of ‘purity’ especially in conquered lands. Heck not even Saudi Arabia or Oman have that level of purity.
I know you are Arab and this is a sensitive subject for you. Don’t want to get dragged into a lengthy argument. We could probably learn something from the Arabs in picking a narrative that suits them and sticking with it come hell or high water! Probably leaves you with better mental health than the western mind constantly assaulted with new ideas and recently more obscene and perverted ideas!
Sicily is the closest because Maltese people are a subset of the Sicilian population, no different than people in Pantelleria and Lampedusa. Interesting fact is that Pantelleria also spoke a dialect of Arabic that was very similar to Maltese until the 1800s.
