  1. There is an explanation though. Due to our thriving economy, the population of Ireland is increasing at a much higher rate than is normal in the OECD. We’ve seen nearly 50% increases in population since the early 1990s.

    If you compare Britain, it had a population of approximately 56 million in 1990 v 67 million today, i.e., nearly a 20% growth in population.

    Ireland went from 3.7 million to 5.1 million, which is 38% population growth.

    Throw in the increased cost of building and you can see what the causes are quite clearly.

    We thus need to find a way to build cheaper or reduce population growth, both of which are deeply unpopular and politically impossible.
