  1. My in laws live near one of the old, cylindrical, round, green boxes.

It’s right near clonsilla train station in Dublin. Which the station opened in 1848. The nearby Post box is a bit newer but likely not much newer.

I like the old iron boxes. Definite case of if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

  2. There’s a VR wallbox (slightly older) one near my old primary school. It has the same Saorstát Éireann logo too. Still in use!

    Love spotting them

  3. Pretty old but not the oldest. Edward VII was 1901 to 1910. There are some VR (Queen Victoria) post boxes still around. Victoria was Edwards mother and the post boxes with VR on them date from 1850 to 1900.

  4. nobodies mentioned the blue paint.
    looked it up.
blue paint was originally used for “international” post.
i dont believe this could be the case.
its the middle of roscommon 😁

  5. There’s an 1890 one here in Youghal and another late 1800s one also, think they’re Victorian l. Seems to be a lot in Cork.

  6. There’s a VR one in Galway that tour guides claim as the oldest in Ireland.

No idea how accurate it is. Probably can’t be proved either way except that it’s definitely a VR one.

  7. When I first moved to Ireland there was an old “VR” one near me but it was removed in the 200’s and replaced with a modern one. I wonder what they do with the removed ones?
