Yesterday was a very important day. I found out Hunky Dory Buffalo are wing sauce flavour, and not some sort of marinated steak from a Buffalo or Bison. Been living a lie for over two decades.

  1. They’re not even a nice wing sauce flavour – far too sweet.

Franks + Butter + Lemon + Garlic + Pepper + Tabasco to give it spark. Away you go.

  2. For some reason I always thought they were implying that buffalo’s are smokey… This makes more sense but they also taste nothing like buffalo wing sauce

  3. Sometimes check the same for diet coke.
And Google every ingredient on it’s back.

You’ll be surprised to see that it’s not good for health at all or for diet.

  4. They have buffalo flavour, yeast extract (so marmite, which makes things taste more savoury), onion powder and other associated powders. If I recall correctly, buffalo hunky dorys are like some crisps you can get in Canada that are flavoured as “All dressed”, but I could be wrong.

FYI, if you ever have a snack that says it’s beef flavour, or steak flavour, chances are it contains 0% actual ingredients derived from beef and instead just contains marmite (yeast extract). Or miso, or just straight up monosodium glutamate. Not saying any of these are bad, everything in moderation after all. Though you can use this to your advantage if you put marmite in your sauces to up the savouriness. Next time you make chilli, throw a teaspoon of marmite in and it will 100% taste more savoury and, for lack of a better word, meatier. Alternatively if you wish to make a bean chilli taste meaty, take the meat out and put in marmite instead and you will be guaranteed to have the same taste in it as you would with meaty chilli.

Also worth saying that marmite is legit very good for you, especially if you’re a vegan and struggling to get your B vitamins that aren’t from pills (nothing wrong with this either, I just know it can be quite expensive). Thanks yeast!

  5. Not really related, but The Venue in Strandhill used to do absolutely savage wings. I haven’t been over that way in a long time. Do they still serve fantastically hot wings?

  6. The Buffalo flavouring has nothing to do with the animal , but rather the city of Buffalo where the sauce originated from. P.S. Buffalos also do not have wings.
