If you’ve just realised that Northern Cyprus ads are a thing, boy are you in for a suprise.
It was actually not allowed as part of the updated sanctions imposed in 1994 which applied to all EEC members. But in 2005 the UK over-turned this after a formal complaint by a UK registered company acting as a tour agency in London.
Cypriots were literally crying over the death of Elizabeth. We love licking the British as much as they love shitting on us.
What’s the problem if somebody else makes advertisments for the north of your country? The Cyprus tourist board should be very happy if somebody promotes the island — it doesn’t even cost them anything.
I know you hate it because it’s coming from the “TRNC”. Ok but does the official Cyprus tourist board do anything to promote or at least inform tourists about the northern part of the island? No. They even deny the existence of Kyrenia district on their websites, instead inventing a Troodos region: https://www.visitcyprus.com/index.php/en/discovercyprus/regions-cities
It goes like: “Yeah, the Turkish Cypriots don’t deserve any money from tourists, lock them out, they are the evil.”
I like how Cypriot suddenly are upset with ads in the UK for the North. This has been happening for years. I was in the UK 16 years ago and there were ads in the underground for “Great Vacation in North Cyprus”.
Surprisingly I saw 0 ads for Republic of Cyprus. Clearly someone is doing something really good and someone is doing something really bad.
