With ICC warrant, Putin has officially become a political pariah

  1. **EDITORIAL. The arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court for the Russian president on Friday increases his isolation and sends a much-needed signal of justice to Ukraine, writes Le Monde’s editorial board.**

On the night of Saturday, March 18, the president of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, slipped into an unmarked car accompanied by a local official. They were “visiting” Mariupol, a martyred city in Ukraine now under Russian control. He greeted a few hand-picked residents who had been relocated and carefully avoided shaking hands. The trip was very brief and images from it were not made public until the following day.
Putin’s first foray into a conquered territory since his troops invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, was perhaps intended as a gesture of defiance to the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) decision, announced the day before, to issue an arrest warrant against him for war crimes, in this case for the deportation of children. If this is the case, Putin’s action lacks panache.
But panache has long since ceased to be part of the Russian president’s toolkit: He’s under heavy protection even at home, where he refrains from any contact with the public and keeps the audiences he addresses at a respectable distance. And he is now a wanted man abroad. As with the criminals of another era, the threat of the “wanted” sign hangs over Putin’s head today, wherever he goes.

  2. The ICC is just used to send some poor Africans to trial. Not even the USA is a member of the ICC.

Even I, consider the ICC a racist joke.

  3. He just met Xi, the leader of the second strongest country in the world and has India, the third biggest country behind him too lol

  4. In the West

A lot of people are rethinking the West or are already turning against us and our ideologies. They want the wealth but they (the elite) don’t want the rest. And they’re really tired of hypocrisy, centuries of colonialism on behalf of various monarchs while now, today, the same former/current colonies are now being lectured on democracy and shown European graphs on how they’re failing and we’re succeeding.

It’s sad for Ukraine and real democracy, good for Putin and Xi. Remember, in order to keep the CCP going long term, China has to make their form of government seem normal and sane.. the only way of doing that is to spread it across the world.
