>Murray Foote had described press reports about the numbers last month as “inaccurate” and “drivel”.
>The SNP confirmed yesterday that membership had fallen to 72,186 from the 104,000 it had two years ago.
>Mr Foote said he issued agreed party responses to the media which “created a serious impediment” to his role.
Basically telling us the party HQ lied, or told him to lie.
This is what happens when you have a party in power too long with very little scrutiny from either the opposition or voters, it’s plain hubris. The SNP are not immune from this flaw and no this is not an attack on Scotland or independence, if you had mentioned this just a few months a ago the ultras would immediately be questioning your motives about these two issues.

Oh, look – there’s another wheel coming off the SNP wagon.
I’m an SNP voter, and want independence. This is all very sad. For about a year I’ve been growing steadily disillusioned with the SNP – problems have been mounting up and they don’t seem to have answers. Sturgeon was growing increasingly combative, and looked like she was often backed into a corner.
Well, now we know she had one eye on the door.
I think the pandemic sucked the life out of her. It drained all her energy in what should have been her prime. I even wonder if she took it *too* seriously. The focus she gave it seemed to have hollowed her out. She always did have a problem delegating, apparently.
Now we’re left with ‘continuity Humza’, the SNP establishment’s man. Given the way things are going, I really hope it’s not him taking over.
Then we have Forbes – a woman who doesn’t believe in rights for people I hold dear, and who defers to an imaginary friend on the big decisions, and the small ones. I really hope it’s not her.
That leaves Ash Regan – an Indy Fundy who’d bring back Salmond and wants to make Alba mark two. I really hope it’s not her.
The SNP hierarchy are full of spinmeisters and outright liars. They are a toxic part filled with bigoted, hateful miscreants. The sooner they’re all run out of Scotland the better Scotland will be to be free of such a stain on the nation.
when she resigned out of the blue, you have to start thinking ‘what’s going on here’
