yeah that’s because finns already had very low purchasing power compared to the rest of the EU and there wasn’t much blood left for shops to squeeze from consumers. make no mistake, not all of that increase is pure inflation – about half of it is shops taking advantage of the situation and seeing how far they can push before people just quit buying from them.
8% is a hecking lot, when the prices already are high.
I also wonder how do they measure these things.. The right wing government (kokoomus prime minister) shut down tilastokeskus/ statistical bureau access to price information. Before them, they could directly download shop price data and calculate the prices. Now they have to go to actual shops and compare the prices somehow.
I’ve noticed that food prices have even doubled. Electricity has tenfolded for some. Only two shops that haven’t exploded their prices are [Tempera](https://www.tempera.fi) art material store and the discount candy store in Helsinki railway station metro tunnel. I’ve spent money on both places as thanks.
I think Kokoomus said they’d remove food lower VAT% tax rate. That’d mean all food prices raise 14% overnight then. And food inflation would jump to 22,5% right next to Hungary on the list.

I dont believe this., sorry.
Can’t go higher high
Doesn’t help that much when the prices were already among highest in most of these categories https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/purchasing-power-parities/visualisations and the purchasing power way below any of the other [expensive countries](https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/statistics-explained/index.php?title=GDP_per_capita,_consumption_per_capita_and_price_level_indices)
