I really like the quality of these photographs, spot on!
Pictures from Finland always looks so happy. Hopefully I get to visit again.
Also, the supermarket is funny because I recently watched the history of supermarkets (yes, I was that bored). It’s really very genius, they thought of everything from the technology behind the checkout to the overall size, distribution, layout to an exact science. It made its way over to Europe from America before this pic but in the early 80’s they still wouldn’t have been the norm yet. Same with petrol/gas stations with all of the food/drinks.
Now the new trend is using vending machines to buy everything from vibrators to cough drops. And btw, I really prefer small grocery stores.. I hope they never go away.
You should see the Romanian grocery stores from the same period just to see how good and nice it was under Russian influence.
Kinda weird seeing the building I lived in for a good part of my childhood, while browsing reddit 😀
It looked almost exactly the same in the 00’s as it looks in these pictures.
Wooden supermarkets and public spaces are super trendy today. They frigging pretend they have invented something new!
To me the biggest evolution in 40 years in these pictures are the skis. Straight (slalom) skis were complete shit compared to todays hour glass shaped ones.
Okay, but do we really need a *’Rural Finland in the 19X0s’* post every other day?
