What´s the median income? Because the rich ppl push up the avarage alot.
Als je daarvoor uit uw kot moet komen…
Sorry but how are people who make less than that even buying houses and such
Ja zeg makker ik zit daar een dik 700 euro onder
Finally, an article that states the economic reaities of Belgium, rather than going off all of the tech peoples salaries here on Reddit. If you just visited this sub and saw all of the “What is your salary” posts, then you’de think the average (before tax) wage for individuals was around $5,000 per month in Belgium and $10,000 per month for dual income households in Belgium (apologies for the dollar symbol, my keyboard doesn’t have the euro symbol lol).
I see this all the time on the general Reddit financial subs too, which tend to skew heavily American and skew even more heavily towards the IT and tech industry. If you go visit places like Reddit Personal Finance or any other general financial sub here on Reddit, you’de think the average American makes $125,000 per year or $9,615 per month before taxes, thus meaning that the average dual income American household makes $250,000 before taxes each year. Which is not the case, not even close!
So yeah, I guess the point of my post is to ignore the noise on Reddit or YouTube or social media about other people’s financial situations, because the top and high earners are more likely going to be the ones who contribute and volunteer their financial information to the public. I seriously doubt that the cashiers at the Delhaize or the nighttime shelve stockers at the local Walmarts are going to be rushing onto Reddit to proclaim how much money they’re making each week, lol.
Disclaimer: This post wasn’t intended to disparage the high income earners, rather it’s to make average income earners and below average income earners not feel so bad about themselves when comparing their salaries to the (mostly) tech salaries here on Reddit.
Average salary is meaningless. What needs to be published is the MEDIAN salary
How much is that netto though?
This does sound realistic.
I work at Schuman Roundabout and everyone in my office who has 2-6 years of experience, and is not an intern, earns 2400-3000 gross. That’s like 50% of us at our company. Then there is 35% they earn 3000-5000 gross and the rest make between 5000 and 12000. So yeah, 3650 median for Brussels sounds right

This seems right, however, there are dozens of thousands who don’t have the chance to have a full-time job or they have it but outside the law, which is they’re paid nothing. I’ve met people earning €600 – €700 per month, working 6 times a week, 12 hours per day, and they live and work in Belgium, that’s the reason why 33% of Brussels live with less than €1,100 per month per capita. However, they will never be included on these studies (nor by Statbel) because they rather don’t work full-time or work in black. I think if they somehow would, findings would be something like “median income for Belgians, EU and upper class expats: €3,300 gross” and “‘median income for the rest: €1,300”
For all those whining about pay. Perhaps take up a job that requires shifts. Sure helped me boost my financial side by alot. It’s just that alot of people hate working in shifts but these days it pretty much forces you to do so otherwise you’ll be stuck with a 1700-1900 netto wage.
Behalve als je in de zorg gaat werken natuurlijk
Maak dat mijn portefeuille wijs!
Title is translated wrong. It’s the median, not the average.
Does this study excludes people without education and thus working in horeca or retail? Cause all my friends that have a degree have been earning that amount years ago at their first job basically
