  1. I do wonder sometimes that these days we become obsessed with what we feed our kids and making their environment as sterile as possible is doing more harm that good?

Didnt have all these allergies and intolerances when i was a kid. Some germs are good for you to be exposed to early on to build your immune system

  2. We’ve known this since 2008 at least. There is a peanut snack in Israel “Bamba” that is very popular and was credited with their very low peanut allergy rates.

More care should be taken if there is a known family risk, maybe those children should be given peanuts during a GP visit or something.

  3. I read an article that said peanut allergies are increasing but only in countries where pregnant women are told not to eat peanuts.

  4. In a similar vein its now known that raising your child on a predominantly soft diet promotes weak jaw development, resulting in crooked and overcrowded teeth in adulthood.

Parents, if you want your child to have nice, straight teeth when they’re older, give them lots of hard foods with their meals. Carrots, apples, nuts etc., basically anything they have to really work their jaw on.

  5. On a side note, ive been on flights where they will announce a passenger has a severe nut allergy so nuts wont be served onboard. Why not just not serve nuts full stop on all flights?

Seems daft someone with a nut allergy has to contact the airline prior to a flight

  6. I think we are going to see a lot of returns to conventional wisdom with respect to parenting in the next few years, at least with respect to health. Parents seem to be rejecting the idea of raising kids in sterile environments and are allowing their kids to get a bit dirty again. One of the biggest issues with lockdown was young kids not getting exposed to the outside world, so not picking up minor coughs and colds to build up their immune system, nor to develop memory cells to allow them to quickly develop antibody responses to illnesses. Kids need to be exposed to the outside world and it can be done in a safe manner.

  7. As a kid of the 1970s/80s I don’t remember meeting anyone with a peanut allergy, or hearing much about them.
Did they become more common in recent years?

  8. Been saying this for years. Yeah yeah correlation is not causation but the rise in peanut allergies does correlate with the decision to withhold peanut products from kids until they’re 5 years old.

  9. Don’t know how well this work. I’m allergic to some very niche tree nuts like cashew, pistachio and pine pesto but I can have almonds etc. I’m essentially told to just avoid stuff if I think I’m allergic to it rather than having some blood analysis
