The Great British Bake Off: Alison Hammond replaces Matt Lucas as co-host

  1. She’s everywhere! What next Songs of Praise? Ski Sunday? MOTD? Not sure I’m gonna be able to watch tbh!

  2. I’m excited for this! She’s so bubbly and fun I think she’ll be a great addition and add a lot more humour to the show

  3. Lucas leaving is great news to wake up to. Alison Hammond being the replacement really takes the shine off. Hopefully she’s not as bad as I expect.

  4. Excellent decision. Matt never really worked in the role. And if she doesn’t work out could be a rolling guest host opportunity.

  5. Stopped watching this because Matt Lucas was so awful (and honestly its getting stale now). Interesting to see how Hammond will do.

  6. I gave up watching GBBO for the past couple of years – loathed Lucas a presenter, and really hated the overall dip in quality.

Love Hammond and now I’m seriously considering rewatching. She is such a delight, and I can’t wait to see her interactions with the contestants and Noel.

  7. I’m still laughing about that time she fell through that table trying to look over the Big Brother fence.

    Fucking brilliant that was.

  8. Why is she on everything! Seems like a lovely person but don’t be on everything! Alex Scott is another again lovely girl but she’s not very good

  9. Lucas was fine, honestly. The problem with GBBO recently is the actual format and the challenges being set. It seems pretty clear to me that, in order to create more ‘chaos’ in the tent to get some drama going, the production is increasingly giving challenges that are not really possible to do in the times the contestants are being given.

Thing is, GBBO has never been a show that’s at its best when it’s full of drama and chaos. I actually *want* to see some well-made stuff – not melted piles of goo from every contestant because they’ve been given 20mins to make icecream from scratch or because they’ve been tricked by a technical recipe that introduces ‘dessicated bee farts’ that they’ve never used before and if you don’t handle them *just* right then the whole bake bursts into flames. GBBO is satisfying when multiple bakers actually fucking nail the tasks, not when they’re all failing spectacularly.

  10. The scene when she was a contestant where she asks “Where’s the door gone?” lives rent free in my head.

    Looking forward to this.

  11. She is a good person and clearly really nice but she’s so unbelievably thick I find her hard to watch. I honestly don’t think she could pass a year 6 sat exam if she sat it now.

  12. I still find it weird that one of the least popular contestants in Big Brother 3 ended up having a really long, successful career in television. Good on her I guess?

  13. I’ll give her a shot but I don’t know if she is the right fit for the show. She will definitely be maternal and will have her comedy moments, however I don’t know if she will fit in with past hosts in terms of style. I’d have expected someone a bit more irreverent as a host myself.

  14. Eh. She’s better than Stephen Mulhern At least so she’s not the worst pick they could
    Have gone with.

Not a fan of her on this morning I’ll admit though. But I’ll give her a chance at least and we’ll see if her humour blends well with the bake off. She could be a lot better in this type of Scenario

  15. Why did this *ever* end up on Channel 4? The BBC should have kept this. I thought Channel 4 was meant to be edgy, but it seems to yearn for middle-class respectability. It’s like a friend who’s a sensible manager, every now and then at parties drinks way too much and tries to chat up young women. C4 has GBBO and Location, Location, Location but shows random Sex documentaries. Why?

And Alison Hammond with her “Turn It Up To 10” voice 🙄 No thanks…

  16. The children’s version is the best version. Genuinely lovely program. The hosts are lovely and the kids support each other and some of them are really talented.

  17. The problem with bake off recently has been the quality of the contestants. Its obvious that diversity quotas are prioritised over the bakers skill

  18. This show used to be great before all the instagrammers and media attention seeking people looking for a book deal started participating.
