  1. Hi all, I just wanted to share my latest illustrated map. I’ve been looking at the mythical beasts of the Iberian Peninsula, I absolutely adored doing it, you have such beautiful and varied mythology and folklore. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the map.

  2. That’s the best thing I’m going to see today!

It’s beautiful I’m very proud of my country and you for taking the effort 🥹👏🏻

  3. I’m glad you depicted Geryon on your map! My home town has a very close symbology with Heracles. In fact, the tenth task he had to endure took place there, as he had to steal Geryon’s cattle to fulfill it. Moreso, he placed the famous columns of Heracles near there, which represents the closest point between Africa and Spain, and also the limits of the known world to the ancient Greeks.

  4. This looks awesome, but I don’t think the Galo de Barcelos fits the ”mythical beasts” category that much.

It is about a roasted rooster that sings and by doing so proves that a person is innocent of a crime they were being accused by. Like one dude (A Galician actually) was going to be hang and he said that he’s innocent and that the roasted rooster on the table is going to sing when he is hung, which the rooster does, so they let the guy go.

It fits the mythical tale category, but not so much the beast ahah

Just a rant. But I really love this! I wish in Portugal we paid more respect to this tales, this is a part of our culture that is lost among the majority of people.

  5. Hey OP, the art style is amazing, great job!

Did you use any particular sources for it? Did you choose to leave some out? I’m missing “tamarros” for the Pyrenees but maybe you either didn’t include it on purpose, you didn’t find any particular info about them or some other reason (considering that their whole schtick is that nobody knows what they look like, maybe you deliberately left them out lol)

  6. Awesome stuff! Like 90% of them are completely unheard of for most of us, it’s sad that our own mithology became quite an obscure topic. And the artstyle is just top notch! The best thing I’m gonna see in this sub for a while

  7. little known fact, outside catalonia we know the basajaun by the name of “francés”. Scary, I know

  8. In Catalonia, I’m missing the Dones d’Aigua (Water-women). (*mythological creature*) Feminine being that lives in places with fresh water

  9. Before you all start demanding mytha you know in the map. I researched this a lot in my high school years, I was kinda obssesed with mythos by half a year.

I agree that all the northern provinces deserve a map on their own, lots of mythological creatures there. As you go down the numbers dwindle but There is still lots of mythological creatures in the peninsula.

As for some of you that claim different names for some of the ones shown. You are both correct and incorrect, lots of myths on iberia are shared by neighbours under similar or diferent names. Trasgu/Trasgo as an example.

Dont forget that despite cultural differences between autonomous comunities you all share ancestors and most of your cultural heritage, even some of the weirdest mythos (basque as an example) have influences from the mythos of their neighbours and same viceversa.
