in fairness we wouldn’t really celebrate italian independence as its more about italy, people don’t really internationally celebrate the irish independence day and people don’t celebrate the 4th of july outside america. st patricks isn’t really about irish independence
I live in the UK and St Patrick’s day is big here. But there couldn’t be a St. George’s day or equivalent as it would be remembered differently in India, Kenya, Ireland, South Africa etc.
(We forgot that too.)

They celebrate the day they became a Republic after wwii more than unification I think.
