Here’s my payslip as a first year doctor in 2005, next to a first year doctor colleague’s in 2023. 18 years later, their take home salary is less than mine was. I lived for free in hospital accommodation and had a fraction of their student loan.
#JuniorDoctorsStrike
I was on the picket lines yesterday with the junior doctors and they are on £14 per hour, are over worked and under staffed, the majority have student loans well over £100k to pay, they also have to pay for their own insurance as well as other outgoings directly tied to their profession.
It was brilliant to be with all those young dedicated doctors yesterday and uplifting to see their dedication and also their determination to see these strike through.
The government have done nothing and even arranged meetings with reps but the minister did not turn up and hours later had the audacity to tweet the doctors should get back to work.
But but but small boats, Christ if this government has the cheek to say it governed after the next election remind people of the complete failure and divisive games played with unions (working people) all just trying to ensure they can provide a live a good life or service. Sick of this Right Wing authoritarian clown show, also they could pretty much settle or satisfy ever unions request by imposing a 1.8% tax of share dealing that alone would fund all of this, or how about 24% tax on the queens inheritance to Prince/king charles
Good. Good for everyone who is striking, I’m glad they’re standing up. Life is miserable right now for too many people and it has to change.
sadly I know far to many idiots who see this as… bizarrely and idiotically as bullying… I just cannot fathom said mindset as to why they are so against people trying to get better pay.
Speaking as a junior doctor, we’re paid absolutely fuck all. Especially during the foundation years. It’s why so many of us are locuming (me) or fucking off to Australia at first chance because going into training has no financial incentive since it’s more hours for shittier pay
Civil servant here and also on strike today along with 130,000 other colleagues, thousand of whom will see a pay rise next month but only due to increase the NMW, which is what they will be paid.
Solidarity with everyone on strike today.
Having done a medical degree myself (not at a doctors level) I want to particularly extend my support to striking junior doctors.
Healthcare is very hard, doctor’s are overworked and underpaid.
A less overworked, well paid doctor is a happy doctor and a better one.
So it’s in everyone’s interest for doctor’s to be paid better!
So are we going drag this out and keep having separate industries striking where our corrupt government doesn’t change anything and the media work with the government to try and prevent coverage in fear of others joining in, OR, we could do it more like the French, and people in every city and town strike and protest to end this mess ASAP.
Thanks train drivers! That’s another £45 in the bank and another 2 hours saved. Same again tomorrow means I’ve missed both office days and saved almost £100.
Next week good for you?
I support these guys, of course, but until they start quitting nothing will significantly change.
The people choosing not to give these pay rises are doing so because they know these people do their jobs because they care, not for the money. They will forever use that against them until they come together and hand in a hundred thousand notices in one day.
Ite for some if I was to do this I’d get sacked…. I know many are with the strikes but truth be said are we not all in the same boat and unfortunately don’t have Union to back us
I’m not sure why nurses aren’t joining them honestly. Very disappointed in the RCN.
All I know is; if I’m expected to entrust my health and my life to someone, you bet I want that person to be well rested, fresh and pretty much worry-free.
So pay the blimmin doctors, willya!
I can understand nurses and junior doctors. But honestly, tube drivers? With what they make it’s a mocquery to go on strike. I can live without the underground but without nurses and doctors not really. And they earn more than nurses up to twice their paycheck. They should be ashamed of going on strike.

Maybe people know this, but today (Mar 15) is budget day. The article doesn’t say this
And the 130,000 civil servants. Feels a bit disingenuous to casually forget a massive amount like that
And [70,000 university staff](https://www.ucu.org.uk/article/12808/UCU-announces-additional-university-strike-day-as-talks-continue).

[And over 1000 BBC Local radio & TV staff.](https://radiotoday.co.uk/2023/03/1000-journalists-ready-to-start-local-bbc-radio-strike/) Now your local Tory MP can’t go on your local news and talk about how amazing todays budget is.
