In the last two weeks the Chinese charge me 50c for a bag to carry my food out, H&M charged me 20c for a bag, and then today my local chipper have upped the price of curry sauce from 2€ – 2.50€ and are just giving out something I need to microwave myself. Why is everything such a rip off

  1. As someone in another thread said; there’s a premium on laziness.

I see the delivery charge of €3 for my takeaway, the service charge of 50c and the bag charge of 25c. I roll my eyes but still click order every time.

  2. Items like the bag charge are just a direct cost they’re passing to you.

You just shouldn’t have paid that much for that curry sauce though. That one is on you

  3. If anything, the plastic bag charge is great value. It hasn’t increased since 2007.

  4. That’s the price of convenience my friend. Takeaways aren’t an essential, although they are nice. If pricing is a concern, home cooking way better bang for buck.

  5. My local pizza place upped the garlic dip from €2.00 to €2.50… and made the bloody thing smaller. I started buying the big squeezy bottle of Empty Pockets Garlic Sauce for €3.50 instead. It’s nicer and it’s cheaper (still a rip off but comparatively cheaper)

  6. Inflation baby. Cost rises and if the cost of product hasn’t risen then why not raise the price anyway as everything else is going up

  7. Because we will pay for it. The microwave your own stuff though is a bit of a joke. I mean the whole point of paying for this stuff is so we don’t have to do any of it ourselves.

This is up there with that chap who worked in a deli moaning because someone asked him to butter a scone. The whole fucking point of going out and paying a person to make this shit up for a customer is so they don’t have to do it themselves.

If I wanted the Ikea of food, I’d just buy some scones and butter and probably get better value for money as well.

  8. People may say it’s due to increases but honestly if you look at the markup companies have on lots of products it’s just complete greed, they’re doing it to ensure annual growth and basically aren’t footing any of the additional costs themselves, that’s why things are ridiculously priced, I get to see how much items are sourced at in my industry and some companies add 100-200% markup it’s just greed plain and simple, that curry sauce could have been bought for less than 50 cent easily

  9. I hope one day there’s a massive downturn and people start cooking at home so shops are forced to reduce prices , it’s gone beyond a joke it’s nothing to do with energy crisis any more, the price of energy came back down but the food prices didn’t

  10. Peak r/Ireland moan right there.

There are worse things happening than a few cent increases on your fast food treats tbf.

  11. Just to add to how outrageous pricing can be, Was doing price comparisons in the office with competitors, simple product €15 to us delivered, companies charging €48, exact same product I charged €22 for with delivery and what happened they went and ordered a load, and now I’ve a repeat customer, people that haven’t studied business often use bench marks off competitors to justify their pricing, so if I had done the same could’ve said ah that’ll be €45 but what’s the point, hence it’s just greed, whenever things go south you’ll see companies change their tune and start offering deals and promoting business but while times are good we’ll continue to see this unjustified greed

  12. I wouldn’t mind plastic bag charges in general. There was loads of them just dumped around the place back before the charges. 2.50 for sauce is crap though, agreed there.

  13. Corporate greed. We pay for their record profits, and they blame whatever crisis is going for for the price increases. But it all comes down to pure, unadulterated corporate greed.

  14. Bags are a tax, not a cost. It’s been in this country for YEARS now, if ya haven’t been paying attention that’s your own fault…jaysus. Bring your own bags, save the environment yadayadayada…

  15. I generally accept that most places (bigger companies being a possible exception) aren’t out to fuck me over but rather it’s a consequence of rip-off Ireland. Their rents and energy costs are insanely high so they all need it up their prices accordingly.
