  1. Grim. We don’t even treat prisoners like this, so why is it acceptable to treat our animal friends like this? I’m a vegetarian but moving towards vegan because of animal welfare concerns.

  2. This is in the UK, it will be even harder to monitor welfare from Australian and US farms and our wonderful government has chosen to ignore welfare in their trade deals

  3. These shock stories have been coming out for decades and it has changed zip. People don’t care. They’d rather have their cheap sausages

  4. They are literally being killed, having their heads cut off and their bodies torn apart. It doesn’t take a genius to realize they are being harmed and suffering in the process

  5. The animal industry is evil on an appalling scale. If you a have a soul and you’re reading this, stop funding it! Eat plants, easy.

  6. No shit! We’ve known about this for years yet people still choose cheap meat that’s horrible from animal welfare and environmental angles.

  7. I ate farmed meat for 30+ years and really the only way to do it is just don’t think about it.

There really is no defence of it

  8. We are the greatest enactors of suffering and the destruction of life that the universe has ever known, and yet we call ourselves the good guys.

  9. Daily reminder to boycott companies with no ethics. Switch to organic free range meat as soon as possible in your life. The issue has gotten so bad here, that I exclusively have to buy meat at Waitrose (nowhere else has them).

  10. Shameful and disgusting. If you eat meat I encourage you to take 20 mins to explore exposes like this. It put me off meat and dairy completely about five years ago. Never looked back.

  11. If you want animals to be treated better than this then you need to be willing to pay a LOT more for meat and eat it less often.

Animals are farmed in these horrible conditions because it’s the only way to meet the demand. The UK isn’t a big country, we don’t have the space to raise all our livestock in humane conditions.

Every cheap burger you buy at the kebab shop, the bacon on your takeaway pizza, the chicken in sandwiches & ready meals etc. ALL come from THESE farms.

If you don’t like these farms and how they treat animals you need to either stop eating meat altogether or severely cut down your consumption. ‘100% British meat’ is not a sign of good quality or welfare.

  12. I would like to make a few points, every person has the right to freedom of choice whether veg/vegan or omnivorous.
Every animal either wild or captive has the right to a life without abuse.
Generally speaking the illusion of animal welfare is not the choice of the end consumer no matter how much the price difference is.
Meat on the shelves (as well as anything else) is not cheap and often the case, the same store we buy our plant based food are the same people who drive down the wholesale meat prices so low that welfare becomes a non discussion and factory farming becomes the only viable option.
The people who are squeezing every living drop of profit out of meat dairy poultry producers are the same people charging 40pc more for a plant based alternative I call this the guilt/vegan tax.
Guilt shaming the people who can’t afford plant based protein and who undoubtedly do feel for animals is not entirely fair, rage against the corporate machine the true psychopaths that knowingly force suffering for profit both animal and human.
If you can side step any of this without a second thought and rebute with a non argument of it’s a choice you are only half right your choice is afforded to you by privilege and entitlement and wealth and you are lucky, many are not.

  13. why is anyone still surprised by this? people are outraged by animals being treated poorly yet continue to kill and eat them. make it make sense?!

  14. Unsurprising and meaningless expose. People who eat meat really don’t care where it comes from. The same way people that eat Weetabix don’t care where the wheat comes from.

No one really gives a shit.

It’s fucking appalling and I hope the fines are colossal, but who are we kidding. We kill animals for food. None of it is pleasant.

  15. Time to get downvoted to oblivion, but you know what I don’t really care, it’s only Reddit!

We should all be switching to plant based diets. Whether you consider the suffering of animals (well treated or not, they die early because you want to eat them), the environmental impact of meat, or the cost, all of those are very good reasons to be eating plant based nowadays.

On a side note, they do some excellent vegan bacon now in all supermarkets. I had a bacon sarnie with it the other day and almost forgot it wasn’t meat.
