I mean, it is actually a lot more demanding on a woman to have a kid than the father/man. Physically and emotionally (hormones are wild) there is a huge strain the first few months after birth, after that there already is a sort of split in the roles between men and women. Especially if you plan on having more than one kid it just makes more sense for the woman to take a step back career-wise, it’s a choice people make. We should strive to keep the negative effects on career planning as small as possible but we can’t be blind to the simple fact that there is a difference between men and women. Forcing men to stay home longer just to level the playing field is extremely stupid, it’ll cost a lot of money and we already are looking at so many vacant job openings.
Equality of outcome is not something to strive for, but we should/could strive for equality of opportunity.

Meh, what’s up with promoting equality but when people fail in life and are on unemployment they are to self blame. Just imagine a time when housing was affordable and only the man needed to work. Make belgium great again!
Tja. Sowieso word ik op de werkvloer al aanzien als een soort alien als ik zeg dat ik als man de was doe of thuis blijf voor de kinderen als het nodig is. Note: collega’s zijn voornamelijk vrouwen, sociale sector. Soms heb ik het gevoel dat we toch niet erg ver staan.

Ik vrees dat dat een stuk biologie is ook. Gelijkwaardigheid ipv gelijkheid. Waarom betalen we vrouwen en mannen niet die thuis blijven voor de opvoeding?
Ik weet nog altijd de ongelovige reactie van mijn vrouwelijke manager toen ik ouderschapsverlof vroeg als man om een maand voor de klein mannen te zorgen.
