Can confirm. I’ve been hit by a car but never ended up reporting it to the police because I wasn’t injured. Should’ve done so but now it’s too late
Wat als je gedronken hebt?
Road accident statistics should not be based solely on the numbers registered by the police. All hospitals should report (anonymized) data on injured traffic participants, so the implemented policies can adhere to the analysis of the real numbers of injured public road users.
Roughly 2/3 of the injured cyclists are accidents without a third party involved.
Sometimes the cyclists him/her self is the root cause of such an accident, but lacking road maintenance or even bad infrastructure design are often important secondary causes.
Well yeah, unless I had a Go-Pro or something, it’s completely useless to report incidents. I cannot read license plates fast enough.
Well except the time I literally went under a bus. Because I went *under* a bus and it’s easy to identify a bus, in particular an accordion one. There aren’t many.
Part of it is because most of it is minor incidents – car refused right of way, car ignored red traffic light at pedestrian/cycle crossing, car bonked the back of the bike, car passed cycle then immediately turned right and cut bike’s way, pedestrian is standing on cycle path behind a turn behind a hedge, pedestrian runs out of bus onto cycle path, car turns left at traffic light without looking at incoming pedestrians and cycle, car passes cycle too close and bumps it, …
I know there wouldn’t be a fine even would I have the license plate. Part of it is because it’ll come to ‘they’re lying!’ and nobody can prove anything, and there’s no major damage besides hematomas or damaged tires.
If I stupidly fall of my bike, of course I’m not going to report that to the police.
