>The ground-breaking law will allow the possession of up to 7g of cannabis and the growing of four plants at home. It also provides for regulated clubs from where cannabis can be sold to registered members.
Well done.
I thought it was legal in Holland and Portugal
This is not really a legalization, this is more akin to decriminalization. Germany looks like it will be the first to properly legalize it.
Oh, and Georgia did something similar already a while ago, so if it this does count as a legalization, then Malta is anyway not first.
Congrats 👏
Sadly Sweden is at least one election cycle away from even considering this (2026). Hopefully Malta and Germany will set the trend for the rest of Europe. But I do think it’s possible more debate on the issue will start in the middle of the upcoming cycle and likely a few parties will use it as a wedge in the 26 election. I think it’s nearly impossible any party makes this a campaign issue before the fall election.
As a Canadian, I welcome Malta to the Cannabis Legalization World. Enjoy the extra tax money!
Only being sold to registered members of a club is a huge mistake. Legalization should remove all profitable reasons for the black market to exist and Malta’s attempt won’t accomplish this.
The Malta tourism board must rule that country with an iron fist. The gay-crypto-reefer island paradise.
What a shame
That’s it folks. I’m moving to Malta.
What’s identify the recreational ?
Why isn’t it already officially legal in any European country?

Freaking Malta beat us to it.
Really? Malta? Color me surprised
Way to go Malta! I lived there for a short time. It’s been about 20 years. I still miss it
