Gary Lineker challenges Elon Musk over abusive message sent to son over BBC row

  1. Doesn’t one of Linekers children have a learning disabilitiy?

I remember reading about it years ago, but he has not spoken much about it.

Everyone should just get off Twitter, it causes more problems than it solves and Musk would go bust.

    Win/Win.

  2. Just for clarity – Elon Musk did NOT send the tweet to Gary Lineker’s son. The headline is really (deliberately) confusing.

EDIT: Clarification that the tweet was sent to Gary Linker’s son, not Gary himself. Apologies!

  3. As Jake Paul’s boxing career demonstrates, the secret to winning is only getting into fights with people you can definitely beat

In picking fights with BBC management, the current Conservative government, and now Elon Musk, Lineker has demonstrated a canny eye for choosing opponents nobody is willing to defend

  4. Ignoring the ridiculously badly worded title of this post…

If you read the article apparently some Tory MP’s are annoyed he’s allowed to say what it wants. Sadly they don’t indicate which MP(s) said this so it’s possible it’s entirely made up but what sort of world are we creating?

I get that when he’s on air his employer gets to pick what topics he can cover but those rules shouldn’t be allowed to control what he says in his private life. If that’s not the case what’s to stop employers from infringing on all our basic freedoms? If they can control his speech outside work could they also dictate who he meets with?

  5. I think it’s getting a bit silly how much moderation people are demanding of social media. And how much moderation people think is even possible.

We accept the risk that some dickhead might occasionally say something unpleasant to us when we go outside. It’s part of life, and one of the negative consequences we accept for freedom of speech which in the balance of things is ultimately a positive thing. Why should social media be any different? Some spines are needed here.

  6. Twitter is an absolute cesspit of hate and trolls. I think the world would be a bette replace without it. Honestly.

  7. > However, some Tory MPs are furious at the decision, saying it allows Lineker “carte blanche” to say what he likes on social media,

Who wants to bet they’re the same ones who say freedom of speech is under threat when someone receives mild criticism for ~~taking~~talking like it’s the 40s

  8. I was talking to a mate the other day who’s a bit conservative, and he was saying that it’s disgusting that Gary lineker was able to get away with saying what he said but Andrew Neil can say what he wants because he’s a political commentator.

  9. The lefts free speech advocate immediately demands less free speech as soon as he’s got his job back.
These people never learn a thing

  10. If you’ve ever seen the movie Resident Evil you will realise the Umbrella Corporation scenario is the desire of the rich and powerful including Musk, Gates, W.H.O and many more heads of business, health and drug corporations, they may not produce zombies but they will produce slaves and that’s us, ordinary people and truly I am not a radical. They will have full digital, programmable control, including CBDC which is so dangerous. IMHO

  11. It’s amazing how we’re reading a Sky News article posted on Reddit about a conversation that happened on Twitter.

Just go look at Twitter yourself, it will save you reading through thousands of Elon Musk-related articles/opinion pieces that circulate r/news, r/unitedkingdom, r/worldnews, etc 24/7 that are inevitably just conversations on Twitter, the platform that Redditors assured me would fail under Musk’s tenure, and how happy that would make everyone.

Now Reddit is just a place where tweets get posted.
