>”To be clear: Preventing inflation to become persistent via the labour market requires that employees accept sensible wage gains and that firms accept sensible profit margins,” he said.
Hahaha, considering that 78% of inflation is driven by corporate greed then i’m afraid the only available option for the firms is to push for massive profits 😀
The cost of living crisis is a huge deal and IMO hardly tackled adequately. If governments would pursue it with as much energy as they do the climate crisis, that’d be great.
The positiv point is, no long-distance train is late today.
Keep in mind that this is a warning strike, or “Warnstreik.”
This is only a one-day strike intended as a warning; we will not stop until our demands are met.
It is a shot before the employers’ bow. They should bear that in mind when negotiating.
Workers want an increase in pay to at least make up for the lost income due to inflation.
Even though the strike has received some negative media coverage, most people actually support it more.
Standstill? Where?
Me, my wife and my two adult kids went to work as usual. Schools were open, shops were open. All fine.
Edit: Downvote me all the way you want. There is no standstill. This strike is a dud.
Printing very large amounts of money has consequences. Who would’ve thought?
I love seeing people fighting for their rights and a better life. Well done strikers all over the EU!
>The 24-hour “warning” strikes called by the Verdi union and railway and transport union EVG were the latest in months of industrial action which has hit major European economies as higher food and energy prices dent living standards.
Price gouging has gone international.
>Employers have offered 5% more wages over a period of 27 months and a one-off payment of 2,500 euros ($2,700) – proposals unions, which are calling for a double digit rise, call unacceptable amid inflation which reached 9.3% in February.
We can all agree these wage increases won’t be passed on to the consumer.
Better idea: keep the trains running but quit controlling tickets. As result you get the whole population on your side and make the corporate owners even more irate.
Show those rich pieces of shit, we mean business. Solidarity of the workers! Unite!
Nope, no standstill here.
Even less traffic on the roads as so many people just stayed in their homeoffice.
I know, this isn‘t an every day option and so many can‘t do their job from home.
But I‘d say the results of this day didn‘t strengthen the position of the striking workers. And I‘m afraid the public opinion and the opinion of many employers could turn to ‚ok, maybe you are not that important we always thought you are – and maybe you‘re too many…‘.
Except there was no standstill. Lots of people just worked from home. There was no more traffic jams than usual. The corona changes in the workplace kinda killed off the impacts of these kind of strikes. Used to be a lot more impactful.
