Biden Reminds Everyone About Sunak’s Home In California

  1. Probably listed as non domicile for tax reasons , just like his wife .
Edit ; forgot to add while screwing the self employed for 52% tax ( guys a wanker).

  2. “US president Joe Biden has joked about Rishi Sunak’s home in California – a perhaps unhelpful reminder of a controversial issue that undermined the prime minister’s early Downing Street aspirations.

The pair were meeting on Monday following the announcement of a submarine pact between the US, UK and Australia in San Diego, California, and came as Biden said he intends to visit Northern Ireland after being invited to mark the anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.

“First of all, I want to welcome you back to California,” Biden said. “He’s a Stanford man, and he still has a home here in California.

“That’s why I’m being very nice to you, maybe you can invite me to your home in California. But all kidding aside, I think it’s an historic day for our countries.”

After studying for a degree in philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford, Sunak took an MBA at Stanford University in California where he met his wife, Akshata Murty, the daughter of India’s sixth richest man.

It emerged last year that Sunak retained a US green card while he was chancellor, which damaged his position as a frontrunner to replace Boris Johnson as PM.

In April, Sunak, an MP since 2015, released a statement admitting holding the permanent resident card to the States until around October – 12 months after becoming chancellor, in February 2020.

It came as he was under intense scrutiny after it was revealed Murty, estimated to be worth hundreds of millions of pounds, held the non-dom status exempting her from paying tax in the UK on foreign income.

The couple reportedly own a $7.2m (£5.5m) penthouse in Santa Monica, a wealthy Californian enclave.”

    Real leader of the people

  3. random question, why and how do some politicians develop that nasally, slightly high pitched way of talking like Sunak? Miliband had it, Blair had it, it sounds weird to me, like they came off a factory line.

  4. When the Tories lose the next election, I can see Sunak standing down then fucking off to California.

He doesn’t strike me as someone who will stay on the backbenchers for years to come, fighting for his constituents (if he is re-elected)

  5. Is anyone actually surprised? What does this tosspot have to do for people to stop supporting him? Him owning a Cali home isn’t even the current worst thing.

  6. I’m pretty sure he retains a bigger percentage of his income than I am left with , don’t forget he advised his wife and saved her from a 10 million tax bill , not enough money for decent wages because of these assholes

  7. It’s completely normal in the US for the President to be extremely rich – it’s practically a requirement as you need to spend so much money on campaigning. An average person couldn’t even dream of becoming President.

For all the things that are wrong about our system here, at least having a multi-millionaire as PM raises a few eyebrows.

  8. And we had the swimming pool story recently too.

Usually ifs labour leaders getting these constant niggling attacks.
    Interesting

  9. Sunak sits there we must help Ukraine Russia bad blah blah blah, while his wife has shares in a business that somehow managed to escape the sanctions. Needs his heated pool to get power while people are using food banks, can’t afford to heat there homes, not to mention all his asylum seekers chat. FUCK THE TORIES.

  10. This reminds me of when Billy Bob Thornton tries to intimidate Hugh Grant in love actually… Only this time, it was successful.

  11. Meh, “couple with $700 mill in the bank has second home”. Not much of a headline

I have many issues with Sunak but this really is a distraction from the horrible policies he’s enacting

  12. He was over in California a while back meeting all the health industry companies with his plans for selling off parts of the nhs to them for backhanders. Just like Jeremy hunt was doing.
Most of the top tories have links back into America via health industry lobbyists and now most recently the American Taliban.

  13. I like Biden well enough. I think he plays the old man but is pretty sharp. He’s reminding Sunak that Northern Ireland and Ireland are very important with little subtle threats I think.

  14. Straight from the heading, nothing else, why is this a story.

    Someone has a second home.

  15. Sunak doesn’t give a damn about the UK and never has. He’ll likely be off to the US once he leaves British politics altogether.

  16. I did wonder whether Sunak took the opportunity to visit his California mansion while he was in the state.

  17. It’s a bit of a non-story. Wealthy man owns valuable property in desirable area, who also happens to be a world leader. Maybe, even though he’s in the nasty party, and you know, just for balance, he *might*, have earned it. Even if he hasn’t “earned” it, perhaps they bought it with their own money, which they legally gained, and that’s the end of the matter.

Perhaps we could focus back on the real grindstone issues like how under the Tories, our economy is now the smallest in the G7 in real terms, water companies are dumping raw sewage into our rivers, lakes and seas, the conservatives lied about partying during lockdown etc. You know, the entire last 12 years of stripping the wiring out the walls and selling it to their mates…
