Protesters in France: ‘This is not just about retirement, it’s about everything’

  1. A march by a large group of environmentalists in the rural heart of the country ended in a violent confrontation with the police, underscoring the destructive spiral in which popular opposition to Macron has entered.

  2. Why is it that people are so adamant to reject the truth of: being green means a reduction in quality of life? So many enviromentalists think they can have their cake and eat it too but it’s not true.

  3. French here :
    # It’s definitely way more than just about working 2 more years. It’s about democracy. Bypassing the system to vote a law that more than 80% of the population and the parliament disagree with is infuriating and totally unacceptable.
And History books show trying to mess with us is never a good idea. We have been fighting for our rights for decades and we won’t stop. We already had 3 Revolutions, overthrew our government 11 times since 1789 and are currently on our 5th Republic. One more time won’t be a problem
    # This law is not even necessary. In 2021 the budget for our retirement plan was positive. Absolutely no deficit. +900 million euros. It is even estimated it will be around 3.2 billion euros in 2022. And economists proved it’s sustainable. And it has special reserve funds. More than 170 billion euros total. It doesn’t need more money.
And even if it did take it were it is anyway. Tax the rich. Macron canceled taxes for the
super-rich. It gave away more than 3 billion euros per year to those who don’t need more money.

  4. But how will billionaires become even richer if those damn lowlifes don’t work themselves to death ?

  5. It’s about burning down everything.

Honestly, I get that people want to protest, but the sheer vandalism and destructiveness of those protests has me rooting for the police. How dare these people even contemplate destroying other’s property as a way of protesting? Burn your own damn cars, not mine.
