She’s absolutely right to say something about it. 4 years is nothing, especially considering he didn’t cooperate, the attack was incredibly vicious, there was a second person beaten with a Hurley as well. She has every right to be angry.
Don’t forget about the automatic 25% remission and additional 25% for good behaviour (if applicable, depends if they keep their nose clean inside) and you’re looking at 2 years and a couple months at best or 3 years and 4 months at worst……
And you’re going to be reminded of this every time you look in the mirror.

She’s dead right to say it. The description of the attack was horrendous and Nolan’s sentence supposedly took into account the guy’s “cooperation” even though he wouldn’t name the other attackers.
I expect the DPP will appeal on grounds of leniency.

We need an overhaul of the legislation categorising crimes. Three people attacking two people with weapons is clearly more than assault.

Honestly I think Judge Nolan needs to step down as a judge and we need some sort of judicial review of judges or something. Far too many outrageous and puzzling judgements from the one judge.

If the DPP comes in at 12 – 14 years for an attack that maimed a young woman for life and a judge comes in at 4 because, ah sure he was only a young fella, and this kind of sentencing decision happens almost daily, surely there is a mechanism to remove a judge who allows DPP designated violent offenders back almost in a revolving door.
