  1. Think the realise there is a growing birth rate problem. Having made it so hard for working class families to exist are they surprised. Now they need to sort out the food, energy, housing and wage crisis!

  2. This will make a massive difference to our family. We’re not exactly badly off but spending 2k a month of childcare doesn’t exactly do your finances any favours.

I’ll still never vote Tory though.

  3. This is a game changer for us with two under the age of 3!!! My partner’s business is ready to grow but she can’t justify working more days a week due to childcare costs!

Any idea when it will be available from?

  4. Instead of fixing the insane costs, lets all pay for it instead!!! Ffs, just up the ratios a bit on top of this, itd make the money go a bit further for all.

  5. This will be a welcome relief for many families. Although I don’t believe it until I see it!

  6. I heard from people in parliament. That it is in part the work of the MP of Stroud Siobhan Baillie pestering the Chancellor of the Exchequer. She’s a new mum of two herself.

  7. Interesting if there’s a catch, like if you earn more than X or you’re horoscope tells them you’re not eligible

  8. Gutted it comes just too late to help us as ours has just turned 3, but happy it’s going to help some families. I hope the eligibility criteria is fair.

  9. Our economy and cities were not made for children, for the eldery, it was made for commuters to go to/from work. WFH and cycling infrastructure (wait for it) are quick-to-deploy, cheap solutions. Make WFH the default when possible. Yes cycle infra helps. Why? 8+ years old can cycle alone to/from school, to/from their activities alone* freeing parents from this burden.

    * In the Netherlands most 8+ years old cycle to/from school alone
