Hey r/Lithuania ! As someone who enjoys learning more about different cultures, I wish to create a Spotify playlist that includes songs from as many countries in the world as possible, and I need your help. List some timeless classics by Lithuanian singers, and I will add the 5 most upvoted ones to the playlist.

  1. “Popular” depends on the age of the person that you ask.

For older Millenials and GenX, Lithuanian music is associated with people like Stasys Povilaitis, Keistuolių Teatras, Hiperbolė, Antis and Vytautas Kernagis. For Zoomers and Gen Alpha, it’s mostly electro pop like Monique, Jazzu, Monika Linkytė, GJan or Donny Montell, or rap/trap like Flying Saucer Gang, Lilas & Innomine, Mad Money etc. These differ like day and night.

That being said, for me, [Kai Sirpsta Vyšnios Suvalkijoj](https://youtu.be/K1EesZH0SkE) by Vytautas Kernagis will be *the* Lithuanian song for me. The man is a legend, god rest his soul.

  2. MG international – Juoda orchidėja is popular among the older generation and is often played during gatherings, like birthdays.

  3. Some hits that most people know include (although highly biased because I prefer older music):
    – Foje – Laužo šviesa
    – Andrius Mamontovas – Marso kanjonai
    – Stasys Povilaitis – Švieski man vėl
    – Antis – Kažkas atsitiko
    – Kardiofonas – Kalėdinė eglutė
    – Poliarizuoti stiklai – Poliarizuoti stiklai
    – Rondo – Margarita
    – Marijonas Mikutavičius – Trys milijonai
    – Karališka erdvė – Karalių paslaptys
    – Hiperbolė – Vandens ženklai
    – Biplan – Labas rytas
    – Naktinės personos – Kaltas ruduo
    – Rebelheart – Ilgas kelias
    – MG International – Juoda orchidėja
    – Vytautas Kernagis – Mūsų dienos kaip šventė
    – Pikaso – Saulė
    – Sel – Kiemas
    – Vairas – Gimiau pačiu laiku
    – Ovidijus Vyšniauskas – Mažyte

  4. This is very subjective, but timeless classics… for me would be probably anything from Vytautas Kernagis when he was in “Dainos Teatras” band: my all time favorites – Kai sirpsta vyšnios Suvalkijoj ([https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EI8_Fk_oMSc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EI8_Fk_oMSc)), Žiūriu į grožį su ironija ([https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPDM5j546sQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPDM5j546sQ)), Žemutinių pilių šventės ([https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maMWJhLPm0k](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maMWJhLPm0k)) and Kad karosas vaikščiotų ([https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Jb7fNiUHog](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Jb7fNiUHog)).

  5. Not yet in classics and not really a song, but a great track, known quite wide in the world would be Ten Walls – Walking with elephants.

  6. A little bit different of a vibe could be Solo Ansamblis songs. They are popular among the youths more so than the older population. Some of the more memorable songs might include:

    • [Juoda juoda juoda juoda naktis](https://open.spotify.com/track/2c6VajK9SQhM20Z9SA83Lq?si=CWGJ83aHTdeliNaLymZfCA)

    • [Moteris](https://open.spotify.com/track/6mepujEmgOqAyTSDr77JJC?si=nt55yryjQSWjDm4q6M29ag)

    • [Eskalatorius į dangų](https://open.spotify.com/track/6NkSyLXzKI6LC03xKSIsXt?si=uv-Ej1a5SMKygZrPZcl6aQ)

    •[Netrurėjom dainos](https://open.spotify.com/track/5i2P4wsbe6x8hrvdZwCSJj?si=3JtPW1UASI2ieGhiX51cvA)

(I wouldn’t say these songs are the best that they have, it is just the most popular and what people who casually listen to all types of music tend to know)
