What do you think about photos of First Minister of Scotland Humza Yousaf in Bute House?

  1. Its good for Scotland, that they elect by skill and not by religion or ethnicity. I hope he does good for the Scottish plp and for europe.

  2. Decent bloke. Ok politician. He’s about to get an absolute tsunami of hate from the Tabloids. Wishing him the best for his time in office.

  3. If an adult person is genuinely religious (doesn’t matter which religion it is) that is enough to me to have doubts.

  4. I presume the older looking gentleman in the white shirt is his father? He looks low-key disappointed his son didn’t become a doctor.

  5. I’m french so the first picture showing only men likely going through some kind of prayer gets the same reaction out of me as americans swearing on the Bible: it has no place in politics. The fact it’s only men (while the women and children were clearly also around) makes me think of Italian macho culture. Probably also because I’m french, I’m not a big fan of exposing yourself with your family. You got the job, not your family. If you want to prove that you care about families, do it through your policies. Your kids especially should be protected from media coverage.

  6. Ethnicity and religion is nothing if a person does his/her job good and does not let these things dont interfere his/her responsibilites against people. Good luck to him.

  7. The very last thing we need in Scotland is more religious fanatics. We’ve had enough of that historically. But for some reason all the SNP candidates were.

  8. I’ll say this about the first picture. Religion has no place in politics. Wether it’s Christianity, Islam, Judaism or satanism it has no place in politics.

That aside, I hope he does a good job for the sake of the Scottish people.

Edit: I don’t give a damn about his religion or the colour of his skin. As long as he does his job of representing the Scottish people well he’s alright in my book. I’d still prefer heads of government to keep their religion to themselves in every shape or form though. Strict separation between church and state is a hill I’m willing to die on.

  9. The UK went the extra step to replace their senior political positions with cheap migrants. /s

Sadiq, Sunak, Humza, even Varadkar. A Pakistani and a Hindu negotiating over the splitting of the UK, the irony is not lost.

  10. He has done speeches in the parliament that are shamelessly racist, they are in YouTube for anyone to watch. Make up your mind for what it is.

  11. To be honest, I don’t care fucking of people origins, skin color, religions, gender or beliefs when it comes to work in governments. As long as they are skillful and act for people first, they could be full blue and purple stripped, believing in Mahomet who died on a cross for jewish people, coming from Mars : I don’t care.

  12. Seems like a slightly leading title there, OP.

And as for what i personally think…well, all the best to him and Scotland. I hope he proves to be a good leader to the scottish people.

Also, a happy Ramadan to the muslims!

  13. As a guy who was born to Muslim parents in a Muslim-dominant country, I am baffled with what Europe is turning into. You know, there is a fine line between white supremacist ideas and not letting Muslims take over your land. You should be able to say no to both without being a terrible person.

All this “I don’t care if he does his work, religion is personal hurr durr” talk is extremely naive and stupid. Does he look like a person who chooses to keep his religion and beliefs to himself?

Islam can’t coexist peacefully with any other belief. This is literally what a “good Muslim” is asked to believe in. It’s in their holy book. They won’t stop pushing their rules up your throat unless you force them to.

  14. This does look like a British family. This sub is getting a bit too race obsessed honestly, kinda cringe we’ve had so many threads on this.

Like it’s kinda funny when we bully sweden etc for recently changed religious demographics. but this post is just pure race baiting. “Oooh WHAT DO YOU THINK of BROWN people in a government building?” Britain’s demographics have looked like this since before any person reading this comment was born.

  15. These photos suck.

Oversaturated, lights are all over the place, grim lighting. Scots, fund your PM a good photographer.

  16. It annoys me cause his name has nothing to do with fish and everyone knows all SNP leaders have to have fish names. Idc what fish, but after Sammond and Sturgeon he should at least go by haddock or something to keep the tradition going

  17. Not many people know him well enough to say. And Sturgeons boots will be difficult to fill. I don’t envy him and hope he’s agile on his feet because the SNP have been a small glimpse of what a normal government looks like for some of us south of the border. But whether or not he had it in him is a question for the coming years. I wish him all the best.

  18. Someone pointed this out earlier…a dude of Pakistani descent may well be negotiating with a dude of Indian descent in neiboring England on the best way to divide Britain with the Scottish referendum. The irony.

  19. It’s horrible news to be honest, he doesn’t support gay marriage for example.

Having religious fanatics running countries is never a good idea.

  20. If elections in Scotland are democratic, there is not much to say really. I know this post if fishing for reactions, but hopefully Europe is more civilised than to call for that

  21. Reminder that in the UK no one cares what religion you are, what matters is how socially progressive or not you are (as well as economic positions).

Works for both sides, eg social conservatives would rather elect a conservative immigrant/child of immigrants than a ethnically English progressive person.
