The accident happened in Zandstraat in Wommersom, where a mother came to pick up her child from a nursery by bicycle. According to local residents, the child would have fallen and then been hit by a car, but there is still a lot of uncertainty about the exact circumstances.

“We were informed about the facts at around 6.45 pm,” says Sarah Callewaert, spokesperson for the Leuven public prosecutor’s office.

“The exact order in which things took place is still anything but clear. It is true that the seriously injured child was taken to hospital while being resuscitated on the way, and that it unfortunately died in hospital. The car driver who was involved in the involved, took an alcohol and drug test and was found not to be intoxicated. We have appointed a traffic expert to investigate the circumstances.”

  1. I see everyday car drivers endangering cyclist by not respecting the speed limit (especially 30) and the minimal safety DISTANCE to cyclist. Even putting in risk parents with their kids!

IMO, policemen should be moving their bill notes because there is many people that does not understand other language than punishment.

  2. Because fuckers don’t slow down when they see a small child next to the road. I regularly walk with my toddler in our street. The pedestrian sidewalk is super narrow, and flat, same level as the road, so not heightened compared to the road and no borduur. The toddler is like a barrel of gunpowder, can charge in any direction at any time for no reason. So i hold on to him for dear life in case he suddenly decides to dash. And all those fuckers drive full 50 kmph right next to us. Sure it’s allowed… Doesn’t mean it isn’t a good fucking idea to slow down when the sidewalk is this close to the road. Toddlers are unpredictable, slippery and surprisingly strong.
