Nice Wonderfull thing to do.
20 years old. think about what you were doing when you were 20
A lovely act of kindness by U/FedeS1984. 👏
I’m glad you & your family got to see his final resting place, but I’m not sure why you’re sharing a photo of his gravestone to complete strangers…?
Seems a little… odd, to me.
Jesus Christ 20 years old
I’m curious, why is it written on the tombstone in English if this is in Hungary? I know loads of people in the country speak English, but it seems unusual to write on the tombstone in a different language.
That’s a lovey story and kind of them to help out.
The CWG is an incredible organisation and there are so many records available about not just the gravestones but often about temporary burials and transfers to cemeteries.
I’m not sure how much research you’ve done, these may help

The Greatest Generation
Nothing but respect for people who died in these wars . So young with so much to live for . Died fighting wars that should never have been . Worst part is it still goes on today.
What an incredibly moving expression at the bottom
Just scrolling through and this came up. My last name is Mundy. OK it might be spelt slightly different, but this post still made me pause. Plus my dad is called John.
Looks like someone’s got a case one the Mundays..
I was looking at my relatives who fought and generally died in the Great War, they were pretty much kids.
Going to a WWII war memorial in Belgium was one of the most moving and heartfelt experiences of my life.
Seeing the young lads aged just 14 and 15 buried there was something I was not prepared for. What I found most moving was that no matter which side of the war you fought on they took special care to make sure pilots and co-pilots were buried with their headstones touching.
What they don’t really tell you is that there is an enormous number of men and women whos body was never found. They had a monument with all the names of those that likely died or went missing and are presumed dead. Thousands of names enscribed into stone to be remembered forever.
I had the great honour of laying the wreath at the remembrance day ceremony.
A remarkable and sobering day I will always remember.
Radio operator and gunner was a scary role. He was a brave man.
Lest we forget.
That was very good of them
Just a kid, the old send the young to die when in reality if all in a bar would have probably got on just fine.most did not even know the realy reason or ideology, such a sacrifice.
My grandfather lost his leg at 15 in WW1 they had to cut above it quite abit.
My grandfather’s both died early due to war related wounds and diseases but my great grandfather seemed to stave off death until nearly 100 he allways had a pipe or unfiltered cig in his mouth, did not drink but took amphetamine pills and IM morphine, the later in insane doses, also I think valium, my dad said that his father told him he was very upset about choral hydrate getting off the market and took of his prosthetic leg and threatened to kill a doctor…… .
He got the amphetamine habit from (purple heart pills) just dexteoamohetamine that was issued to soldiers. Morphine, heroine and laudanum would have been used for alot of things but after he lost his leg even more so.
The doctor believed it was keeping him alive lol.
He had a good prosthetic leg and recovered quickly could ride a morotbike and play football but he was a very bitter man.
I was just old enough to remeber him, he did boast about how many GFs he had when he recovered lol I was too young to understand.
As soon as he died my father got a VW….
nice
