Britons have more confidence in EU than Westminster, poll finds

  1. We’ve all seen what the Tories are with the guard rails off high is precisely why they wanted us to leave the EU, so they have untrammelled power over us

  2. half of the country never wanted to leave- is this result any surprise? We can all see how well the Tory party is doing.

  3. It’s not really saying much right now.

They recently had a race between how long their last prime minster would last and how long a piece of lettuce would take to rot away.

    The lettuce won.

  4. Easy to see why. Promises of Brexit were utter lies and based on no facts.

The Tories appealed to people’s basest prejudiced instincts, because they couldn’t let Farage get there first.

The whole thing was pushed through even though the referendum was advisory and only 38% of the registered voters voted for it.

EU is far from perfect and so those far away hills seem much greener.

The trend now is for people to realise the ills of the UK are from chronic British government under investment and neglect, not from the EU or it’s regulations, which the UK had a major role in leading and crafting.

  5. I mean as a Dutch person I can’t even bring to words how little confidence I have in my national government. They literally fucked up everything in like 10 years. It’s kinda impressive in its own right.

So yeah I agree wholeheartedly, the EU is the only government we have that even tries to look beyond the next 2 years.

  6. Did you see the David Davis quote?

    > The former Brexit secretary David Davis said the marked shift was probably a result of “a whiny, unpleasant, bitchy row” in parliament over Brexit since late 2017, “which has been completely unproductive”.

    > He said UK government crises over the coronavirus pandemic would have added to the slump in trust and suggested that since Brexit, the media – he named the Sun, Daily Telegraph, Times and Daily Mail – have stopped “kicking Brussels all the time” as they did in the run-up to the 2016 referendum.

    >“No one reads about square strawberries or straight bananas any more,” he said.

Can’t believe that he actually said that part out.

That the previous lack of trust in the EU was directly caused by the right-wing media.

Now the UK have to face up to their own failings and can no longer blame the EU, instead focusing their blame on those responsible all along – the UK government
