More activity centres for the wealthy… That’s what the UK needs now! Poor people get back to basics and back to work. Wealthy people need more lavishness.
Bad idea. Street circuits look cool but generally produce less exciting races.
Yeah… I don’t think London City Airport would be all that happy about being cut off for a couple of weeks as they put up/take down the circuit. It would also gridlock movement towards Canary Wharf…
Whats the point. Surely a street circuit is there for some nice scenic shots of whichever city you’re in not just some Baron wasteland next to a runway.
They’d be better off investing in one of the many circuits already in Britain such as Donnington, brands hatch etc to get them up to spec for an actual race.
Also sarcastic note does this idea sit within the ulez zone
The FIA are not going to add to an already packed calendar, and certainly not going to add a circuit in an already established market. The only way it would be a possibility is if there was a desire to move away from Silverstone, which simply isn’t the case. There’s too much racing heritage there. It would be like moving all cup finals from Wembley to the West Ham ground, permanently.
Oh cool a super lucrative event that will bring in tons of money. London needed one of those.
No way London could handle a gp. Never mind the fans. It would be appalling
Is Silverstone too northern? London wants it closer?
Pahhhhh
Do it right: include Buckingham / Embankment all the way to tower hill etc and back again via farringdon / kings cross / regents park / turn at edgware road and back full circle
The Council would make a fortune on the ULEZ charges x cars x laps x £12 + 😸
This feels like utter insanity when you consider the amount of proper, and well-regarded race tracks we already have in the UK.
Saw this earlier – my initial thought was “if you’re going to have a street race, which tend to be shit anyway, why wouldn’t you have it go around the nice parts of london instead of docklands”.
Seems stupid to me. Wouldn’t be surprised if Khan tries to charge the F1 cars £12.50 though.
Why is an environmental group proposing a car racing circuit?
Silverstone is a classic circuit on the calendar and provides some great racing. Wouldn’t want to give it up for this….
IMO a London GP would need to incorporate some of the classic tourist attractions; Buckingham Palace, the Mall, Parliament Square etc to make it worthwhile but that would be economically and logically impossible plus still nowhere near as good as Silverstone
Or they could just skimp on road maintenance for a bit and have it as a rally stage.
We already have great race tracks in England and street circuits generally produce boring races. Look at Monaco and Baku.
