Surströmming isn’t easy to find even during Surströmming season. Get what you can. There is alot of liquid in the can bc that’s how Surströmming is processed.

Unless its transported inside a working refrigerator, that stuff is going to be liquid when it reaches you.
You need to bring your ass over here to get the real deal.
Sounds like a transport/storage issue.
But best brands are usually Bockön, Mannerströms, Kallax and Borkbo.
Röda ulven and Oskars are usually last in the yearly tests.
Just a question, how did you store your can? Because it will dissolve to goo unless you keep it refrigerated.
