I don’t want to jump to conclusions or on the “Nolan’s too lenient” band wagon, but four and a half years seem light?
By the sounds of it they had way worse intentions. The attacker was heard saying stab him lads, directed at that girls friend.

It’s absolutely insane that we have a judge famous for lenient sentences. I’d say scumbags be jumping with joy when they find out Martin Nolan is judging their case
There’s a narrative about Nolan.
What I always wonder is what sentence were the prosecution seeking. It’s never mentioned in these articles.
From reading this he was one of 3 involved in the attack. While he threw a punch and was involved, it was the two others armed with a hurl and saddle who did all the serious damage and also stabbed her friend.
I’d expect the other two to get much harsher sentences when their trial concludes
Nolan is a fucking disgrace of a judge. DPP asked for 10-14 years, Nolan says 8-10 is better but sentences him to 4 1/2. Nolan is a piece of shit.
Unusually high for a teenager with no previous convictions, surely?
A terrible attack amid a culture of these bullying attacks. I hope this youth can turn his life around in prison and leave violence behind.
This is such a tragic case, that poor girl and her family are affected for life by that scumbag and his pals. I only found out recently that Judge Nolan was a guard in a previous life. I wonder if this influences his reluctance to give harsh sentences.
I have absolutely zero faith in our legal system. I was targeted seemingly at random by a group of people that just liked starting fights and shit. They called me for months threatening me, patrolled the town I live in (they were from a town about 30 mins away) looking for me, parked outside my house hoping to catch me coming or going multiple times. Called the guards God knows how many times and they were always hours before showing up which obviously gave the scumbags time to leave. Was told that nothing can be done as they hadn’t actually done anything to me.
Fast forward to a night out and one of them spotted me outside a nightclub. He hit me, I hit him back and got jumped by his 5 mates. Luckily I made it out with heavy swelling to my face and eyes and a couple of permanent scars on the inside of my lips due to being kicked in the face on the ground. Nothing serious but that was thanks to some friends seeing it and shielding me until the bouncers intervened. Reported to the guards the next day. Guards visit the ringleader and he claims that “some people I don’t know started hitting him after he hit me”. Guard reviews cctv and tells me it looked like I was getting the better of him and I was just like “yea you obviously watched the wrong fight”. Because my one punch left his face quite swollen, the guard *recommended* to him to also press charges against me.
So in summary, I was targeted for months, beaten by a group and at all times had been contacting the guards and the result was that myself and the ringleader were set to both receive assault charges. I was sent to the sergeant to receive punishment and he said he couldn’t understand why I had been sent to him after he read the case file. So I was lucky not to end up with a criminal record for being jumped. The guards took him at his word that he didn’t know the other parties so he was the only one slightly punished for the whole thing.
Bonus points to the guard that threatened to arrest me on paddy’s day one year because it was my third time walking past him to go to the public toilets in the space of a few hours (I honestly don’t know what his problem was) whilst he was having a conversation with a friend of mine who was underage at the time with a bottle of Budweiser in his hand. Mate was having a friendly chat with a beer and I was threatened for going for a piss…
He has done so much to undermine faith in the judicial process. If I was a victim on the steps outside the court I would find it hard to not call Nolan out publicly in front of cameras for doling out lenient sentences.
That being said, there is a process to appeal lenient sentences and Nolan’s record in appeals is no better or worse than peers so seems DPP is rarely objecting?
Nolan gets some backhanders those sentences he makes some good scratch. The parents or people pay him its pretty well known
Found it strange how there was so much focus on how sorry the accused is, how he’s a model student, his dad was horrified at what he’d done, Judge Nolan said he was satisfied that he’d not engage in serious criminality in future, etc.
It then says the probation report put him at a moderate risk of reoffending.
Doesn’t seem all that compatible.
He won’t even do 3 years probably be out summer 2025. And he knows who the 4th attacker is. They are walking around free.
I don’t know why people have any tolerance with scumbags like this.
