Rishi Sunak has electricity grid upgraded to heat his private pool

  1. This is how Rishi is detached from reality. His IR35 changes killed British IT industry while helping his wife’s Infosys getting competitive advantage on the UK market. They have doubled their wealth in the last couple of years.

He thinks he is doing a great job and he is getting praises from yes men in his bubble.

We can’t have elections soon enough.

They should have never been in politics.

  2. Cold water swimming has health benefits, so jokes on him really!

But yeah these people live in another world to us.

  3. Fuck him but I’d expect any spark to tell you that you’re probably going to need to upgrade your system, if you’re installing a swimming pool into your house

  4. cant figure or if he knows what a soulless neglectful thief he is or hes that dense that he thinks hes doing a good job.

  5. Actually he is a rich twat who has no family love. He farmed his kids off to boarding school his wife is wooden.

Give me the love of my children and the hate of my wife any day over sitting in a pool on my own thinking how rich I am

  6. As much as I dislike the Tories and as tone deaf as this may appear during a cost of living crisis; I don’t really see any issue with Sunak spending his own money however he wants. If it was public funds I’d be upset but it’s not

  7. SO…. just saying… In France EDF employees have deployed targeted selective cuts of electricity to designated politicians.

  8. Laws must be passed to not only provide a free basic level of energy consumption, but to cap the amount industry and domestic consumers, especially can use.
This should be done via a steeply rising energy tax, so that if you used an excessive amount, you paid an excessive tax on it.
If the filthy rich were made to shiver, they’d still be able to avoid it by moving abroad, or staying in a hotel, do they’d never suffer, just be inconvenienced, but at least they’d have to pay.

  9. There’s a video of him circulating on social media where he is out with his daughter and missus in Hyde Park. His dog is unleashed and not wearing any identity tags, which are punishable offences. Yet while he is doing jack all in the video, his security guards are chasing the dog. Once they get the dog he still doesn’t lift a finger and lets his wife take care of it:

He keeps collecting fixed penalty notices like he is Ash Ketchum collecting Pokemon, loves breaking the rules and has no regard for anyone if they are not a millionaire or a billionaire. So of course he is not going to care about anyone else while he is getting his pool heated.

  10. Come on, you mean to say you put up with lukewarm water in your personal pool? Yeah he’s a Tory PM but he deserves a basic quality of life like the rest of us.

  11. At first I looked away before I read beyond the 6th word for something else, and was thinking “yes!” but then I was so disappointed like that

  12. The contrast between public pools having to close because of sky high energy costs which the government have done nothing about, while the PM pays £1000s to upgrade his private pool that he probably barely uses shows how detached he is from the realities facing people and businesses across the country.

  13. I get so frustrated by this story. It’s not a story that keeps on giving. Yes he is rich, yes he can afford a swimming pool, yes he can afford for his supply to be upgraded. We get it, he is rich.
He is allowed to spend his wealth.
This is in no way relevant to his shit handling of; NHS & whole public service. Environment (particularly sewerage discharge), immigration and asylum policy, energy crisis, cost of living crisis, support of those in need, protection of vulnerable people, defence of free speech, Ukraine, Brexit.
If you all want to try and drag him down because of his ability to buy a swimming pool, crack on. But I’d prefer to put my efforts on bringing him down on his record as a public servant.

  14. This is absolutely standard. If you apply for a grid connection that exceeds the available capacity of the LV network in your area then you have to pick up the cost of distribution network upgrades. This would apply to Joe Bloggs if he wanted to install a high load device too. The difference is, that most people would deem the cost too great, Sunak can afford it…

  15. PM will pick up cost of upgrade work in North Yorkshire, and no suggestion he received preferential treatment

But lets bury that in the subtitles, so we can generate all those sweet outrage clicks we can use to generate ad-revenue – the nakedly capitalist, cynical ‘journalists’ at the guardian.

This story is basically ‘wealthy person spends money’. Why is that news? Its cynical clickbait crap and you all for all it.

  16. I’m not a fan of the guy, however he paid out of his own pocket, what’s the point in this article? What’s the point in personal wealth if you can’t do anything with it?

  17. Legislation is needed where wealth and property cannot be inherited, it must all go to the state, except for personal possessions, under a low limit.
We would then see how successful the rich kids are when they don’t have an inheritance to get them through life, although they would still benefit from a fantastic private education and financial support from their family, but they’d be no better off than the average person within a generation or two.

  18. The real inequality in this world is money…the rich keep our eyes off them by keeping us busy with fighting over race, gender, sexuality. A clever diversion, keep the masses focused on small issues and ignore the enormous elephant in the room

  19. “Sunak will personally pick up the cost of the electricity upgrade work – estimated to have cost tens of thousands of pounds – in addition to the ongoing cost of energy consumption for the swimming pool.”

Which is all from the tax payer paying his salary

  20. Alright for some eh? Don’t worry about me having a Chicago Town pizza and bread and butter for tea, Rishi 👍 Compared to some people out there I consider myself lucky to have that!

  21. I don’t see the problem. He is paying for it out of his own pocket and will obviously be picking up the energy bills himself. That’s money back into the economy at least, better than it just sitting in his bank account.

He is a rich mother fucker, he is going to do rich mother fucker shit.

  22. What’s even more remarkable than this astonishing demonstration of profligate spending is the fact that he commissioned this work while he was the PM. Any PM who had the slightest degree of concern about the optics would have delayed this work till after they left office. I mean, he’s PM, how much time could he have for swimming in the pool at just one of his multiple residences?

But, no. Start work and be damned what anyone thinks, my comfort and luxury is more important. After all, I’m the man who has shoes made by the same craftsman who makes the Popes shoes. You can wait for your doctors appointments, or your essential surgery. You can wear more clothes if you’re cold. You can visit the foodbank if you’re hungry.
