Hello I was in Portugal a few weeks ago for work and when I got off the ship and came into port there was a little coffee shop selling coffee and cigarettes and beer and pastries. The one I got was kind of a cinnamon bun shaped swirl but flatter and covered in something sticky and sweet with I think candy cherries and other candied fruit on and in the pastry. Does anyone know what it was? It was really good and I want to try making them. I bought it somewhere around here.

I’m thinking maybe a caracol (google “caracol bolo” or “caracol pastelaria” for images, otherwise you’ll get snails), but that one has raisins and not cherries or other fruit.
Maybe something like [this](http://www.sacolinha.pt/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/05-caracol.jpg)? It’s a caracol (translates to snail/swirl), also called caracol de fruta. Common pastry in coffee shops. The candied fruit is ‘fruta cristalizada’.
the portuguese version of the “schneck” an alsacian pastry.
