You do have to appreciate Neasa sticking to her principles

  1. The Green Party is going to be wiped out in the next election. By doing what she did she may very well be the only one to keep her seat.

  2. I don’t follow it too much but would she be someone who would end up running along side the social Democrats instead ? Or would their ideals be super different ?

  3. Maybe I’m being a little bit naïve, but I think the ramifications here for Hourigan being a conscientious objector are too harsh, and undemocratic.

  4. The same principled Neasa Hourigan who voted for Leo and Micheal as Taoiseach.

Like buying a cow then complaining when it shits in your lawn.

  5. It’s my greatest voting regret giving Neasa my first preference last time out and I’ll never vote for her again. If you’re in government you’re in government, you have collective responsibility for all decisions including the ones you don’t agree with.

If there is an issue that fundamentally strikes at your core values, then you resign the party whip and head to the opposition benches for good. Going rogue and voting against 1 in every 50 issues so you can get some headlines and have the whip removed for a short period is worthless. All this ends up achieving is that you don’t get to implement any of your policies but yet you shoulder all of the responsibility of the actions of the government

  6. She seems principled and that’s nice to see. Hopefully she’ll jump ship and keep her seat with a party that appreciates her more than Eamonn Ryan ever did.
