> Romania and Poland will make joint purchases of military equipment, the heads of government of the two countries announced at a meeting in Bucharest. Helicopters, ammunition and air-raid warning systems could be on the shopping list.
>
> Both countries want to strengthen their positions on NATO’s Eastern flank and are also planning to work together to produce military equipment and ammunition.
>
> A Romanian-Polish commission will identify what military purchases can be made jointly by the two countries.
>
> Nicolae Ciucă, Prime Minister of Romania: “This technical commission will identify precisely those objectives that we can undertake together, including the joint acquisition of equipment. We have discussed with the Prime Minister the need to develop our own defence industry capabilities”.
>
> This is about the production of equipment, but particularly ammunition.
>
> Mateusz Morawiecki, Prime Minister of Poland: “Cooperation in the field of Defence, in different sectors, agreeing on parameters regarding procurement, training, preservation, maintenance, as well as on joint procurement of military equipment with European money for Ukraine fighting, shows how real our alliance is”.
>
> Joint procurement could mean, for example, helicopters, ammunition production equipment and early warning systems against air threats. The two countries could buy larger quantities and get lower prices.
>
> For example, the Poles decided to buy 1,000 tanks, 600 artillery systems and dozens of fighter jets from South Korea to replace those donated to Ukraine. South Korea is also an attractive supplier for European militaries, and our country is also considering it.
Didn’t Romania also begin looking into buying M1s too? It’s about time given their MBT, the Bizonul is well just a modernized T-55 (or 62 I forgot). With a 100mm gun which is both weak and uncommon among allies, this is a no brainer.
Nice to see this increase in cooperation.
