How about they make less Strictly and more interesting science documentaries
Yet they whacked a letter through my door demanding I renew my TV license. Lovely lot.
Can I stop paying my TV license to save money?
The BBC budget has been flat or near to it for years while the value of that money has decreased due to inflation and its expenses have grown (offloading the costs of free license fees and the world service to it). Things are giving way as they have to.
Just turn it off, why would you watch something so outdated and not tailored to your viewing preferences.
Why not supplement with adverts? Or have users buy subscriptions? Or have it as part of your national insurance?
I don’t know why the BBC couldn’t just have a premium iPlayer service (iPlayer+ if you will) available worldwide, and offer programmes that are no longer or not as of yet available on the iPlayer as well, with extra bonus content and previews on top of that.
That way, the license fee can be kept, a new revenue stream can be created based on existing technology, and without the need to introduce advertisements or privatising the BBC.
£222 million in profit is surely enough to get with the times..
BBC needs reform.
To save money?! What the fuck is my TV licence going towards then?
How about cutting programmes that make out a mythical character is real?
I’m all for fairytales, but ramming it down people’s throats as real with monotonous regularity is unbelievable
I’m also all for equal coverage of other cultures fairytales, but that doesn’t appear to occur, only the ‘ego plumping ‘ of the local hypocrites..
The Daily Mail’s foreign billionaire owner should be forced to fund the BBC
Half its headlines are about the BBC, so it’s only fair
Fuck the BBC.Just die already so I don’t have to pay another bill.
So annoying. The BBC has a mandate to educate and inform. Its continuous duplication of terrible gameshows and reality shows that are already on ITV, c5 and c4 is a gross breach of its purpose.
The sheer lack of history, art, science and music programming thats not a repeat is awful.
The TV license fee is incredibly outdated and people are finally waking up to this.
The BBC has failed to adapt properly to the modern world and will suffer the consequences now. It needs major reform.
You don’t need to pay for a TV license if you don’t watch live TV or BBC iplayer.
Started to go downhill since they canned red dwarf
the whole comment section is comparing the BBC to Netflix when the latter has no TV channels. half of the TV licence pays for the live TV channels and 1/6 goes to live radio. a better comparison is Sky
I still can’t believe a tv license is an actual thing. I hope people are smart enough to not pay it
Or they could just get rid of lineker, and all the reality shite.
They could probably save a bit of cash by not sending those sad little threat letters.
If I had a wood burner, could have gotten through this past winter burning those alone – and I’m only half joking…
And here it comes, the Tory grind.
Next will be “why are paying the same price for much less?”
They cancelled Still Open All Hours the other month (without much comment) and I’m quite disappointed about that. Still getting a good total of viewers and with the ever amazing David Jason amongst other great actors, and what nice relaxing TV when every channel is currently showing dreary drama with violence every afternoon and evening. The reason they cancelled it was because of ‘covid related reasons’, which would have been acceptable in 2020 & 2021, but in 2023 not so much.
They could sell the canned laughter machine to raise some funds.
