Two held on suspicion of murder in Kerry Babies case

  1. I thought when they announced that they were investigating again that someone who knew something had tipped off the gardaí but then it went so long without any updates that I thought it would stay a mystery.

  2. Hopefully the media leave Joanne Hayes alone; the hell she went through at the time doesn’t need to be rejuvenated.

  3. I wonder are we/can we use genealogy to bring old cases like this to conclusion? There’s numerous success stories in the States now

  4. The woman is only her in 50s and the baby would have been 39 this year so that makes me think she would have been quite young when she had the baby if she’s the mother. Just an observation

  5. Question: The article mentions one baby, but the name of it is the Kerry Babies. I am not familiar with it; is there more than one?

  6. One of the strangest aspects of this case is the repeated desecration of Baby John’s grave. It has always struck me as desperately sinister.

  7. My mother once told a story of a woman who lived close to us in the 1920s extreme poverty squatting in a mud cabin in a tiny parcel of land my mothere parents would have been in there mid teens around then, .apparentlly she was a bit immoral for the time perhaps a prostitute and had many partners including local black and tans.

She had multiple pregnancy and the babies disappeared the belief was she murdered them the local priest began hanging about and the IRA were none to pleased. and would berate gentleman callers , she eventually ended up committed.

I think this sort of think was more common than we think in times gone by.

  8. There should be no leniency in this case.Murder is murder no matter when it happened. I presume the couple involved will blame a deceased person for killing the baby and the actual perpetrator will never see jail. However the parents of baby John should be tried for concealing the truth and sued for the pain that they put the Hayes family through. The church should stay out of this too ….

  9. Why does that journalist from Kerry, Anne Lucey, keep saying no one local wants this resolved? Every radio interview she has done this weekend she keeps saying ‘it has been 40 years.’

  10. I wonder is there any truth in the story that a close relative of the woman held was a senior Garda at the time. If so, it might explain why the original investigation was deflected so fiercely to the other end of the county and to another family entirely. There is little chance of a murder conviction 40 years on especially if the couple held refuse to cooperate bu there is a lot more to this saga to be revealed yet.
