Had anyone else entirely forgotten that the nandos ‘peri-peri’ scale was even a thing?!
I mean since then we’ve had ‘freedom day’ despite objectively being in level 3 restrictions, then we have plan B despite still being in level 3, now we are in level 4 but there are no new restrictions.
It might help messaging if they stuck to one consistent set of levels / actions that happen in those levels
It’s interesting that the DEFCON alert scale and the COVID alert scale go in opposite directions.
DEFCON level 5 is peace and level 1 is war.
COVID level 5 is it all gone wrong and level 1 is all is fine.
Does level 4 do nothing? I read it shut indoor venues like cinemas, casinos etc on the gov website, but not a word?
This means nothing to the general public and I doubt anyone will make any significant changes to their behaviour as a result, regardless of how you feel about COVID measures. I wear a mask when out in public and have to at work (NHS), I wash my hands and keep a safe distance from people. I haven’t even had a cold in the last two years as a result, which has been heaven. If more people just followed the basics, on top of getting the vaccine, then we would be in a far better place to live our lives as close to normal as possible.
Meaningless. We can’t lock down every time a new variant appears. Let me let you in on a little secret, Omicron won’t be the last variant. We must learn to live with Covid without restrictions. Let people live their lives, travel and visit their loved ones, this has gone on for long enough.

Have they even any solid evidence a single individual has died from Omicron yet? I was reading reports a few days ago it was a far less severe variant.
